Metropole Hotel - Brussels

Used it as a weekend break between business commitments. Close to the Metro and lots of good restaurants

Historic and ornately beautiful hotel. Guest ro oms don't equal magnificent public rooms. Location is perfect for shopping and strolling to major city sights.

This must have been a great hotel at one time. Lobby and common areas are beautiful but need a face lift. The place is very dated. It needs a major uplift to be a great hotel again. It has the bones for it. Area is noisy and commercial. Staff not helpful except for concierge.

We stayed there for 3 days while in Brussels - very close to all the historic sites and public transportation. The room was clean, the staff was very friendly, spoke excellent english, and the breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay there again!

The Metropole is a beautiful hotel, within easy walking distance of the Old Town and the restaurants of St Catherine's. The staff are really friendly, speak excellent English. Only thing I would say is the food is very expensive in the hotel! €10 for a portion of chips and €24 for burger and chips!! And the main restaurant is around €80 for a 3 course […] meal. I was for a night in this hotel. I was very satisfied.

This was a pleasent stay in an old charming hotel´close to the Grand Place and all the other yings you would like to be close to food cinemas museums and it has a very nice cafe and breakfast in the room included. I can only recommend this. Ulf

The renovated rooms are nice, but not all the rooms have been renovated. The lobby creates great expectations but the rooms do not match it. The service was good.

Hard to believe how this old hotel has retained its 5 star rating. It probably was THE hotel in its day but it is now faded. Been a long time since I stayed in any hotel that did not have clock in the room and who did not make the wake up call as requested. The Metropole Hotel is gorgeous and very clean. It definitely has that "old-world" Europe feel to it. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Pros: magnificent, grand and beautifully appointed turn of the century(20th) hotel. accessible location with metro stop right outside the front door. 3 of us traveling together found discounted rate on Hotels dot com. Both of our rooms were very large(unusual for many European hotels). Sumptuous breakfast buffet with great coffee! Beer, coke and water […] provided daily---gratis--- in the in-room mini-bar(another surprise). Spacious bathroom with tub for 2! I stayed in three different rooms. The first was minuscule and one could barely open one's suitcase. It was also extremely hot all the time. The second was a little larger but with no view. The third room was a real room, very spacious and with a view of the street. Good location, within 10 minutes of Grand Place and one could walk to the major museums. This was my 3rd stay and I love this hotel. The bar / cafe is reason enough to stay. The Metropole's late 19th century design is becoming increasingly rare in our modern world, the hotel is great place to take a break from the 21st century. If you know Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel or the Drake in Chicago you have sense of Metropole Brussels! The location […] is perfect for tourist, the subway stop is right in front, a major shopping street is behind the hotel, and the Grand Place is a couple blocks away. We arrived hours before the published checkin time and they quickly moved us into our room. It was large and comfortable. The only negative was the lighting. While the room had 5 lamps, the bulbs were all of such low voltage that we would not have been able to read if we had wanted to. Lovely old style hotel. Reception/Concierge staff were exceptionally helpful. Chambermaid service really let the hotel down. Had to ask for enough towels, shampoo etc - the stuff normally taken for granted (what a shame) - trolley left in corridor until 21hr00 some evenings. We stayed here for 3 nights and we were totally spoilt by the staff. It is a magnificent 5 * hotel. It was decorated to an extremely high standard, the beds were so comfortable. Our mini bar broke down and within 10 minutes of reporting it we hd a new fridge intalled with free complimentary drinks. Although it is said to be a 4 star Hotel but there was not a tea tray in the room. I have been to many other Hotel but never charged for a complimentary tea in my room and it always been available for no charges. I was also charged 28.00 euros for one ,less then 4 minutes telephone call and I was shocked.

We were in brussels for only 3 days and it is a beautiful hotel, walking distance to any sight in the city. The room was gorgeous. Only minor thing was that the hairdryer didn't work, but that was quickly fixed by bringing us a new one.

One half expected Poirot to appear. It is a beautiful hotel with wonderful features such as the lift. The ensuties in the bedrooms could do with a fair bit of work and the wine was hardly cheap but the atmosphere and service more than made up for it.

Metropole Hotel offers luxurious amenities and is centrally-located: Central and Midi stations which we used are within walking distance, as are most of the city sights and shopping. Service is warm, efficient, and prompt. Hotel breakfast is sumptuous (really fills you for the full day of sight-seeing!), with a server constantly wanting to refill your […] coffee cup without being prompted. The room is large and appointed well; same with the bathroom. However, the Grand Dame is showing her age, with visible flaws such as rotting portions of the bathroom door casing, musty-smelling/looking carpet, outdated projection-type TV (with very limited channel selections), period bath faucets that are "stuck" and require a lot of effort to operate. In early October, the heating system was firing away and moderating it took a lot of effort. We were told that a top-down renovation is underway and has not reached the lower floors (where we were staying). However, our terrace was being used as a "dumping" place for plywood and other materials that we preferred to draw the curtains close to not see these unsightly stuff. We were in beautifully renovated rooms with heated towel bars and a flat screen tv. Fabulous breakfast buffet. Great location and beautiful lobby. Only wish people at outdoor cafe didn't smoke so much, but that's typical in Belgium.

Close to Metro and centre. Hotel elegant and comfortable and our room was spacious and clean with a large bathroom. Excellent breakfast attentive and helpful friendly staff. Would stay here again if in Brussels.

My wife and I don't usually stay at hotels as nice as this one, but the deal we got made it very affordable. The high ceiling made the room feel very spacious, the bathtub beckoned for us to take a soak, and the complimentary beverages in the mini-bar were well appreciated. The hotel was good value for money in an excellent location. My only gripe would be the shower sprayed all over the floor and ran out of hot water on our last morning.

August 2011, no business center although listings said there was one (upgrading). Room given was too hot; ac not working; asked for and received switch. Apparently a range of room qualities. Second room was excellent. Breakfast was superb - highly recommended. Location excellent. Clean and very picturesque lobby.

Hotel Metropole-fine for a drink to take in the history, however the bathroom smelled moldy and there was little hot water. Neighborhood did not feel safe at night. This is far from a 5 star hotel.

The hotel was beautiful and staff were excellent, as was the location. The staff were extremely friendly and accomodating and assisted in us in all of our needs. The only problem was the smell of the room that we were in for three days. We ended up buying air freshener because it smelled of body odor and was very unpleasant. This was a very nice grand old hotel with a great location within walking distance to the historic City Centre plaza, mossy popular. Our room was spacious with modern conveniences. It had a free wet bar of two bottle waters, two beers and two Cokes daily allowance. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Old poorly maintained hotel. Elevators and plumbing are an issue. Maids party in your rooms while you are away. The front desk is less than helpful. With so many hotels arround why pick this one? Dont trust pictures go elsewhere.

I am an experienced traveler and I can tell without a hesitation that this is one of the most beautiful historic hotels in the world. Interiors and decor are breath taking. Rooms are elegant and comfortable.

This Hotel was in a great location. We ended up taking the bus from the train station when we arrived and it was so close (two stops) that the bus driver told us not to worry about paying. It was so easy to get everywhere from our hotel. We didn't take transportation again until we were leaving and the hotel recommended that we take the train to the […] airport. I always appreciate it when a hotel (especially this nice) recommends public transportation over a taxi. Every time we left the hotel we stopped at the concierge desk for help and they were extremely helpful every single time. We went to three countries on our trip and travel regularly. We stayed at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful--the Art Nouveau decor is astounding. The hotel in itself is a tourist destination mentioned in many guidebooks of Brussels. The rooms are beautiful as well. Which wasn't too terrible because we were really only in the room to sleep. The free mini-bar including Belgian beers was an added bonus as well as free wireless. We really enjoyed out stay at Metropole... it was very convenient to the Grand Place and other sights we wanted to see on our brief stay. Very comfortable.

Just off plane from US - concierge was wonderfully helpful - bikes, umbrella to borrow - directions - first quality breakfast beautifully displayed - earns 5 star rating in every way!

Metropole Hotel is one of the grand hotels in Brussels. However, I would rate it 4.5 Stars due to the run down conditions of our room, given it's 5 star rating. Location is very good, close to the Grand Place and other attractions. Staff is uneven, some are excellent, yet 2 or 3 we met were polite but unenthusiastic or helpful. Nothing special here - while the hotel is well-located and the public spaces (lobby, bar, etc.) are beautiful, the rooms are in dire need of renovation. I promptly requested a room change when my first room (a "superior" with a small balcony overlooking the city) had a cigarette burn in the comforter and extremely dated decor. The second room wasn't […] much better and had a slightly musty odor and needed to be repainted and otherwise refreshed. Service was at a baseline - nothing special but not terrible. Beauttiful hotel - and so convienent to Metro. Excellent and inexpensive Cafe with great sidewalk seating. Very close to shopping street, walking distance from Grand Place and short (10 min or less) walk from Central train station. Breakfast buffet is extensive. I'll stay here again!

Customer service was great! We loved the free mini bar and the proximity to The Grand Place, metro etc.

Hotel is in proximity to everything. It should not be 5 *! It's rather old and need restoration but Great location!

As always at Metropole, the staff was extremely polite and serviceminded, the room was immaculate and there was not a single sound from any of the other guest rooms.
