My room was very clean. Wish it had a little more AC, but I would stay there again...it is right across the street from the BART which made it very convenient.

The desk chair was very uncomfortable - no arm rests and no cushion. After sitting in it for a while (working at computer), my bottom went numb. It was awful. The other chair needed to be on rollers for easy relocation. The rooms are small and rollers would allow easier re-positioning to watch TV - and then return. Nice hotel for the area - great restaurant. - perfect location for access to public transit and a to the University. However, it was a little noisy and the room decor was a bit hapazard..

We were unable to get the same room for the 2 nights we stayed. The second night we had to pay for a cot, even though we had requested a 2 bed room. Staff at hotel very nice. Location awesome. Second night we were facing Shattuck and it was unbelievably noisy with the street.

Lovely hotel in a great location. I traveled on BART and your close proximity to the station is very convenient. Disappointed that the "King" room contained a full-sized bed. Poor water pressure in the shower. A lot of sound transmission through the demising walls.

The room was small but clean. It was not well lit. The LED lamp on the desk was inadequate. The front desk seemed understaffed in the evening. The dinner at the hotel's restaurant was excellent. The location two blocks away from Berkeley was very convenient for a campus visit, but the area does not seem safe at night.

Only good things to say about our stay. Hotel was clean, comfortable and price was reasonable for Bay area hotels. Added bonus: located next to BART station which was so convenient since we decided not to rent car and used BART to get to and from the airport. Rooms were nice sized and had a modern boutique feel, clean and comfortable. Convenient location especially if you have college kids. Was visiting my daughter who goes to Berkeley. The Shattuck Plaza is, in a way, old-fashioned. The desk people go out of their way to handle all requests, give information, arrange for taxi or limo rides - and all with a good attitude and a smile. Room was extremely comfortable, and the entire hotel looks recently re-done. Restaurant had great breakfasts and lunches, but the room service wasn't […] quite so good. This place is amazing. The staff were great, it is in a wonderful location. If you can, take the BART only 5 vs 60 for a taxi. Very helpful, will stay again when I go back to Berkeley.

Nice hotel. Across the street ramp parking, Walgreen's pharmacy. Starbucks around the corner. BART station within 1 block. Only drawback is street noise and price (I can stay at the Hyatt in SF for less, albeit a BART ride away from Berkeley). I would stay there again.

This hotel is just steps from the Berkeley bart station and a city bus stop, so it was very convenient. The staff opened doors for us and greeted us warmly and had great travel advice. The restaurant served delicious and beautiful food. We will go back.

Very nice hotel on the inside. No parking. BART station is right across the street from the hotel entrance. Shattuck ave has a few cheap, decent places to eat but neighborhood is more like Oakland (homeless and street vendors) than I expected. Did not try hotel restaurant. At 10PM all the music outside got quiet but until then a constant techno beat […] could be heard in our room. One night we had two cop cars right below our window. If not for location I would give it a 4/5. I would not recommend (because of location) unless you are just planning on sleeping there and need a BART station close by then it is decent option. Grear decor, fun central location, and cool breakfast and lunch options- the price is right too. The stay is worthwhile and it is now one of my top bay area choices

Great hotel. Right by the BART. Restaurant is one of the best in Berkley. Only problem was that for 3 nights in a row the city chose to pressure wash the sidewalks at 3am. This meant a generator was running for an hour. Woke me up and since I was on east coast time , couldn't go back to sleep. All was perfect except for minor - seems restaurant (not hotel restaurant) on ground floor was being remodeled and I guess they were in a hurry to finish the job because there was drilling going on until 11:15 pm - didn't particularly disturb us just thought it was odd. This is our 2nd stay. We will not choose others as it is close to Bart by which we will go to the airports. The room is clean, new and well maintained. It is also a few blocks from Berkely. Everything seems fine except the price which is too much above the others.

Although the room and location were perfect, the service was rude. The service employees treated us like second class. Ignored us in plain site. Also, I reserved a king room with breakfast in bed online and I got a smaller room with no b.n.d. ??

The stay was nice, but had minor nits that I do not expect for a high quality hotel: 1) you could only get 1 wireless connection (which they don't tell you). I carry at least 4 Internet devices on me; not knowing I was limited to 1, I connected the wrong one up.. 2) there doesn't appear to be anyone manning the desk overnight. Rooms, staff and proximity to everything East Bay are outstanding. The only drawback is very limited parking.

With my daughter attending Cal, this hotel has a very good location. Covered, overnight parking nearby ($5), a nice restaurant within the hotel, good bar, walking distance to movies, restaurants and shops. I will return.

Was hoping this would be a great posh way to wrap up a 3 week travel around the west coast, but was left a bit disappointed. Bed was super comfy, shower was great, bar had awesome service. We checked in late, after 10p and the desk staff wasn't the most friendly. No mini-bar in the room. But the downstairs bar did let us take a bottle of wine up and […] gave us a bottle of still water. No Valet parking, had to use the public lot across the street. Super convenient as it is close to Berkeley BART station if you want to head over to the city. The windows in the room let in a lot of noise from the street. Traffic, dogs barking, people yelling, it all came in loud and clear. Yes, the windows were closed. The first night I was there, I could actually hear a marching band playing, late at night. The restaurant was lovely, and the food and service good. I didn't stay there but had to pay the full fee--even though they weren't sold out and I didn't deprive them of any revenue. Won't be booking here again.

The rooms are very small. There was no dresser or place to store cloting. Poor value considering the price

No qualms other than not having a microwave or any type of microfridge. If you were to have these in every room, the hotel would be rated higher by most in my opinion. Oh, I know it's not a business area but no valet parking especially during the holidays was a real pain in the rear. Very nice room recently remodled. Excellant resturant in the hotel. Only complaint was lack of in room coffee. Also missed MSNBC on the cable line up.

They remade this hotel into a boutique hotel. They did a very good job fixing it up. The bar and restaurant are nice too. The price: VERY GOOD thumbs up

Very nice hotel right in the middle of downtown Berkeley. Beautiful rooms, great internet, excellent service. The only negatives are parking and the bathroom counters are small. But beautiful and hi tech.

We were in the bay area to attend a concert at the Paramount Theater in Oakland. The Hotel Shattuck Plaza was perfectly located for our needs, just steps from the BART station. We had a nice dinner before the show at the hotel restaurant, where the food quality and service was very good. The bar scene was festive, for those that might be interested […] in that aspect. There are many other restaurants and coffeehouses in the area to explore as well. The walls are on the thin side allowing voices to carry, which is the only less than positive observation I had. This hotel and staff were fantastic from beginning to end I enjoyed my stay. The Five restaurant was fine dining and unexpected in this location. I am so glad I got out of the routine chain hotels and stayed here. I will go back again soon.

The hotel proved to be much more than we expected. 5 stars for convenient location (1 min from the BART station making access to San Francisco remarkably easy), exquisit customer service, and condition and cleanliness of the room. i stayed four nights in November 2011 and was very pleased: the ground floor is really well laid out, with the lobby merging with the bar area, and the bar area merging with the restaurant. The food is good, and people were having a good time here every evening. Upstairs the decor is vivid in the corridor, more restful in the room. Very comfortable, […] and everything worked well (TV, internet) except the shower--although this may have been because I happened to have been given a disabled-friendly room. Well appointed, very nice place with great access to BART, CAL campus, right in the middle of downtown Berkeley. The bar was very handy, well appointed and the bar food was great. Only pause was in the restaurant - menu was not up to date, or some of the descriptions were off what was actually served, e.g. buttermilk pancakes with berries turned into a regular pancake with applesauce on it... And also the second time we stayed there. Perfect service when you need something. Great location in the middle of Berkeley pretty close to UCB campus. However there should be a dedicated 24 hour car parking service offered at a reasonable flat rate in the parking structure vis-a-vis.
