I have stayed at the Cliffdweller before and would stay again. Clean & comfortable and pleasant personnel.

Very good value for a clean, simple room. The view of Lake Superior off the deck was fantastic. They could probably invest in updated bed spreads and maybe time to recarpet. I recommend this hotel for a good value - not the Ritz Carlton but a good deal.

Older, but very clean. Smaller hotel with a very homey feeling. Wonderful sitting on the balcony surrounded by trees and wonderful view of the lake and very close to the lake. Very convenient location. Would definitely return.

We were so impressed with the location of the motel and felt for the money, it was well worth the stay. We had the most magnificent view of Lake Superior out our patio which we throughly enjoyed. The breakfast was very good as was the room itself and its location in the facility. We would highly recommend this establishment!

For a inexpensive motel this place has as good of a location as the more expensive options nearby. Situated right on the lake with every room having a balcony overlooking the lake. The rooms are nothing special, but were clean. My only complaint about my stay was the advertised wireless internet. The rooms may be small, however it is clean and comfortable with a balcony overlooking Lake Superior. I find the rooms to be perfect for a weekend getaway to the North Shore and at a very affordable rate. Rooms are comfortable standard fare for motel accomodations.The view from the room overlooking Lake Superior is outstanding and the sound of the waves at night adds to the ambience. If you enjoy bicycle rideing, the Gitchi Gami Bike Trail is adjacent to the Cliff Dweller parking lot. I'm sure there are better locations along Lake Superior's north shore, and there are certainly better appointed hotels, but I think you're unlikely to find much better value for the price. Good place if you just need a place to lay your head, and would like a view of the lake.

Expensive for the value, but nice view of the lake and nice surrounding area. Shower was a joke. Very low shower head, and water was hot-cold-hot-cold. Made you dance around waiting for a moderate temp so you could continue.

They may not have AC but found opening up the patio door gave us great breezes right off the lake. We really enjoyed sitting on our deck and watching the lake. Brakfast was very good and found everyone very friendly.

While the room was not a luxury room, it was very clean. The view and the sound of the waves hitting the rocks is amazing and makes up for the lack of luxury. The price is the best on the North Shore. Continental breakfas was great with a great view of the lake. Only complaint was that the beds and bedding could be better! We would go back again.

The hotel is set right on Lake Superior--as I walked into my room, I was greeted by a view of the lake framed on one side by a pine tree. We sat on the balcony and watched a gorgeous pastel sunset. We were pleased with the simple, quaint yet comfortable room and facilities. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The best part, though, was being so close to Lake Superior, the fabulous view, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. I haven't slept that good on a vacation since our last cruise.

We were very disappointed with the lack of up keep on this, what could be, amazing property. Doors didn't work, dogs walking in the area of continental breakfast, bad odor.

The price is very reasonable since it includes a nice breakfast! The view of the lake from your room is awesome! Even though it was raining I could lay on my bed and look at the lake--very relaxing. It was quiet and I slept well. I would definitely go back there again.

This is not the 1st time we have stayed at this hotel.It is situated on the rocky shores of Lake Superior and is a perfect getaway for a much needed break. As we are at an age that nightlife means tucking in early with a good book so this is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Can't beat the price and the view of superior is nice, the continental breakfast was good with a nice room to chill while you eat and check out lake superior. Only complaint was that we couldn't get a queen/king single bed, instead we had to settle for two double beds. Felt like an old married couple, ha.

The hotel is just West of the ski area (roughly 5 minute drive) if you are coming from Duluth. The room was clean and comfortable. The view of the water was exceptional. I found the hotel to be a very good value, I would stay there again.

I won't repeat what others have said. This used to be a Best Western, but they removed themselves from the chain due to costs and silly demands (two phones in every room?) from the chain. They used the extra money to make improvements to the property. This is an exceptionally beautiful location in the fall. It was too cold to leave the balcony door […] open, but I love to listen to the sound of the water on the rocks below. Highway noise is noticeable but won't keep you from sleeping. Shower runs hot and cold. None of this would keep me from staying again, especially when most other resorts in the area are double the price. They are booked up far ahead in the fall. Comfortable room with a cozy balcony overlooking Lake Superior's North Shore. Friendly, courteous staff. Room obviously well-used as evidenced by carpet, but was otherwise clean. Exterior was undergoing some painting. Good continental breakfast in a room with plenty of windows on the lake side. Would have liked to stay another day or two.

The hotel was close to Lutsen Mountain and Superior National Golf Course. The rooms were clean and the views of the lake were great. Good continental breakfast.

great location on lake superior. sitting on the deck watching the waves crash on the rocks below was amazing. room was very comfortable and breakfast excellent. staff was friendly. will stay again. homey atmosphere.

Very clean stay, however certainly not a 5 star stay. It's a great place to stay for a night if you're looking for something right along Lake Superior that's not overly priced. Wish the balconies would have more privacy.

This was the perfect place for us. A fantastic, unobstructed view of Lake Superior highlighted a comfortable, clean room. This is a "no frills" establishment, but the basics are wonderful. The staff was friendly, the light breakfast bar was adequate, and the view was superb. This isn't a luxury North Shore resort if that is what you are looking for, […] but if what you want is a clean, appealing room, a great location at an affordable price, this is your place. patio door to lake superior, great sounds & smell of northern mn pines. terrific continental breakfast; eggs, toast, cereal, waffles, juice, coffee. nice "base camp" for grand marais or grand portage. we would come back here.

Staff was stuffy and ill knowleged, there was no driveway because of road construction, which is not their fault but we were not aware of it, and the motel had just lost their franchise to Best Western. I can tell why. The room was clean enough. The room door didn't close well and stuck when trying to open it. There was no air conditioning so we had […] to leave the the very old patio door open with a fan running on us all night to sleep. The patio door screen couldn't close all the way and so wouldn't lock. We had to leave it unlocked all night. The smoke detector kept chirping so they took it down and never replaced it for the 2 days we were there. The staff chuckled at us behind our backs. I would never go back. The only good thing was the view of the lake from our patio door and the breakfast was good. The bed sagged and was very hard. The was no restaurant nearby so you had to drive for all your meals. So we left each morning and didn't come back until near bedtime. It was the low point of our whole trip. If they hadn't refused to give us our money back we would have gone somewhere else. Loved the setting, hotel and people who own and run it. The view was spectacular from our balcony and we are looking forwards to our next visit there
