Stayed in the Sebel hotel's annex, which is a veritable rabbit warren of passages servicing an estimated half of the accommodation. The lobby is grand, and the main elevators in the lobby are suitably elegant, but after taking several twists and turns down a narrow unadorned passageway you arrive at the single annex elevator. In looks and smoothness […] of operation, or lack of, it resembles a service elevator, crammed hard up against the door of the 24 hour gym and the bottom of the fire stairs. It makes it most unpleasant getting to and from your hotel suite, which could be overlooked if not for the fact that they bill themselves as one of Melbourne's premium hotels. I don't often give feedback, but it appears that some hotels read the reviews on this site and take notice. Barring some major renovations, perhaps some artwork on the walls of the passage, like the black and white charcoal drawings in the rooms, would serve to soften the transition from luxury to meager. "Sebel in Melbourne - full of charm"
The hotel had much character being a renovated historical bank building and the rooms were quite spacious considering other hotels are smaller and the large bath was divine (could have used a bigger botle of bubbles though). The hotel was only a few blocks from the Regent Theatre, within walking distance to the Mall and the train station, plus having […] an IGA express next door was very handy as the room had a kitchenette. "Good business location, needs to put service first"
My cleaning service was spotty; some days they cleaned everything, other days they ignored my room completely. When I checked-in they informed me that room service was closed on Saturdays due to weddings. Note - room service and the restaurant/main area is closed several times a week for events, without notice. Internet access rates are above standard […] pricing.
