The El Pescador Hotel is very Mexican quaint, it's right on the beach and 1 block to the Malicon, hub of the action in Puerto Vallarta. It is an older hotel, but the rooms are clean and serve their purpose. "Hotel Needs Maintenance and More Chairs"
I knew from reviews this would be a bare bones hotel. Our particular room - 352 - had a toilet that leaked around the base giving the bathroom a sewer smell. I never was able to turn on the cold water in the shower, but it wasn't a problem because the hot water never got that hot. The room was clean, the bed was hard, but some people like it that way. […] We did have a beautiful view of the pool and bay. Unfortunately, someone near us smoked a lot and the smoke drifted into our room via the balcony door. Some of the hotel guests monopolize the few pool chairs available by either coming out during the night or extremely early in the morning and moving the chairs (which are lined up by the pool every evening), placing their towels on them, and then not showing up to actually use them until late in the afternoon. Friendly and helpful staff, especially the bellmen. Good Mexican hotel, clean but older hotel that could use some updating. Location good for busses, taxis. To find that, you may […] want to try the hotel zone. Cons: Get out to the pool by 7am and mark your pool chairs or they are gone. I saw regulars reserve their chairs at this time then not use them for the whole day. The hotel is partly responsible as they could provide more chairs and lounges. There was a computer for use in the lobby part of the time but when it wasn't there, I was told that it was available at the Rosita a few blocks away. "Convenient and Affordable!"
I was very impressed with the establishment overall. Its an older hotel but has been very well maintained. The location is excellent: Right on the beach and in old vallarta one of the two reasons i came here. Im not a person that needs five star luxury resorts. I prefer to experience the "real" mexico and do what i want to do... see where each day leads […] me. The hotel is reasonably priced which leaves lots of money for all the activities that Vallarta has to offer :) The price included breakfast which was nice, they tried to have a variety of offerings during our stay and while not gourmet, it was above average for sure. The staff was very helpful and respectful. The location was great. We had six rooms for a family reunion at the beach. The breakfast could be greatly improved with the addition of fruit. "A reasonable place to stay"
This is a perfect 2 star hotel for anyone who just needs a place to sleep at night when you are on the go during the day. It's clean, staff is friendly and helpful. The pool is sufficient for a couple hours of playing for kids. The on site restaurant has OK complimentary hot breakfast. We didn't try lunch or dinner. Liked the location, facility, and staff. Only had breakfast at the restaurant, which was so so at best. 3 taco stands 1/2 block away were good and cheap. Oxxo convenience store only 1/2 block away also. Nice beach. Pool acceptable. Liked the room and ocean view. Bathroom was roomy and clean as well. Will stay there again. My wife and I stayed here Feb.27 to Mar.9,2011 for the first half of our stay in P.V. to enjoy the downtown excitement and wander the various streets and sites. Overall we were very surprised how friendly the staff were and the clean condition the Pescador was considering it is over 60 years old. The location was perfect. Ley's super market is only […] a short block away and tons of eateries! The real shortfall is the very hard beds although the rooms are kept clean. The hotel staff also gave me a small styofoam cooler for our room because there was no fridge to pop, beer, etc My two recommendations to the owners of Pescador Hotel: Install more comfortable beds and add a small fridge as it would improve the stay 100 percent. Excellent proximity to the Malecon. Very friendly staff. Bed very hard. All clean but very basic. On street side was noisy from traffic. Setting is nice.

Over all we were quite happy with the hotel. It is not fancy but for the price it seemed a fair deal. The only thing I would definitely change are the beds. The hotel is located on the beach with a great view of the ocean. It does not have all the bells and whistles, but it is a good hotel at a reasonable price. Why spend more if you are going to be out most of the day sightseeing or shopping or enjoying the sites. The staff were very helpful and friendly. La gente que trabaja alli es muy amable, el servicio estuvo excelente, el servicio de restaurante muy rico, la zona en donde esta el hotel muy bueno con alberca y acceso a la playa, desafortunadamente en esta epoca del año el agua de la alberca esta demasiada fria pero bueno a mis hijos les agradó. Espero poder regresar, gracias.
