The Glasshouse - Edinburgh

Everything about my stay at this hotel was simply first class. From the welcome at reception, the escort to my room, the room itself and the hotel facilities. My only complaint was self-inflicted: since I had an early train to catch I had to skip breakfast. Through Hotels.com I got a great rate for this hotel.

Enjoy the modern feel of the hotel and the location. However, I was a bit surprised with the condition of my room. While the room included an incredibly comfortable bed, modern appliances and great art work, the paint on the wall in a few areas was chipping and the carpet at the bathroom entrance was torn.

Since the hotel is not clearly marked, it's a little challenging to find. We drove by it literally 4 times before we had to call and ask for help. Upon checking in, we found that our patio door was broken, thus cheating us out of one of the reasons we booked the hotel--for the private patio with city views. Great location, though. Plenty of restaurants […] within walking distance, and the urban location is a great jump-off point for other city activities. Comfortable rooms, central location but very noisy on a Saturday night in the street facing rooms. Was kept awake most of the night by sceaming revellers from the nightclub below.

Hotel was excellent, service and front desk were faultless. We even made use of the room service menu which was exceptional. Highly recommended.

We were a bit disappointed with the hotel for a 5 star. It was average.

Great location, wonderful staff, such a comfortable bed! The only negative point would be a lack of focal point of the hotel, namely only having an honesty bar with no atmosphere. But with so many great bars locally not really a drawback. Edinburgh really is a most wonderful city, the people as well as the buildings.

This is my second stay in this hotel and I just cannot fault it at all !

The hotel was clean, comfortable and had some character with a nice lounge area and a rooftop garden. The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, Perfectly located for the Playhouse, bars and restaurants at the top of Leith Walk and Broughton Street. Excellent hotel

Faultless service from all staff with particular courtesy from the check in staff. Rooms light and airy with very adequate facilities and contemporary designs. Only minor criticism was the basic TV and bed which was very uncomfortable for two reasons: 1 Ridge/hollow in centre of bed 2 Duvet far too small for kingsize which left one or other shy of cover. The check in was really great, I felt welcome and relaxed. They took care of everything. The room service is spectacular and fast, and I daresay it was relatively cheap. I'd return here in a second. It's the place to stay.

This was truly one of the most pleasant hotel stays my husband and I have ever experienced. The room was spacious, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. We also had a huge deck from which we could see much of the city. Just a couple of blocks away is the charming Conan Doyle pub, which we frequented.

Very friendly hotel stuff! Great breakfast! Nice rooms! Complementary 24hrs internet! Great terrace! Just about 10min from Weverlay train station and the centre. No restaurant but In-Room dining possible, weekly changing menu. Will definitely stay again there. (regular pricing a bit hight but I got a good rate over Hotels.com)

I was given an upgrade to a room that was on the garden rooftop. The room was simply amazing. The wall facing the garden was completely glass, and the door opened to a beautiful garden terrace. The room was luxurious and beautiful. The service was wonderful. I recommended this hotel to my business associates and they will be staying in a suite. I will […] definitely go there again. We states at the Glasshouse for 3 nights in July 2011. We stayed in a suite and it was well appointed with all emenities. Clean, great patio/deck and a welcome decanter of scotch bearing the name of our suite! The front staff were so incredibly helpful. They made excursion recommendations and the bookings, also recommended and made all dinner reservations, […] all of which were very good. First impressions of this hotel were excellent due mainly to the fantastic staff. However the quality of the room was disappointing. There was only a fold away wall dividing us from the next room and noise became an issue. The guests next door arrived in at 2.30am laughing and talking and turned the radio on full blast. Beautiful, thoughtfully appointed rooms and warm, genuine staff. Of the 30 or so hotels I've stayed in this year, this was perhaps the best. The only knocks on the Glasshouse are 1) that it's not easy to find on foot if you don't know what you're looking for (ask directions), and 2) the nightclub downstairs is lively until quite late. Booked and paid for this hotel for 2 adults and 2 children but when I checked out I got charged an extra £50 as a supplement for extra bed,I should've been told about this when I priced the room or what the point of pricing rooms

Very clean modern city centre hotel in excellent location at end of Princes St, right next door to Playhouse theatre. Lovely balconies and rooftop garden and bed was the comfiest ever!. Perhaps slightly impersonal but most city centre hotels are. Would definately recommend and stay again

Very convenient location and easy to walk to popular historic sites. Room overlooking the front was subject to the noise below, especially when the outside bar was open. View of Calton Hills from rooftop terrace disappointing because terrace not high enough to give the claimed view. Fridge not working and was not fixed until two requests were made. […] Front desk service was friendly and accommodating but not special. Overall price was too high for a mundane stay. The hotel was nice. Very clean. The wireless Internet was very poor and the tv was not working when we got there. They were also out of conversion plugs for us to borrow. :( The staff was very nice. Beautiful hotel all around.

hot day for edinburgh.room was 29 degrees c and couldn t be cooled down.changed rooms later on,and staff couldn t have been more helpful. not restful stay.

I'd booked this for my husbands birthday as a five star hotel. We were disappointed with the condition of the room. Badly joined carpet, badly scuffed walls, basically not what we have experienced in five star hotels previously. We found the toilet facilities very loud and the turn down service surprisingly early. There was a conference on our second […] day and for some reson everybody collected outside our room on the roof garden which made us feel as if we were in a godlfish bowl. We were pleasently surprised by the unique charm of this hotel. The bedroom layout is so beautiful, romantic and the bathrooms are large with a bathtub and separate shower. Great big windows. This hotel was amazing! On our 2-week trip across Europe, we had come across a few hotels where street noise was a problem - not here! Once all the doors and windows were closed, you couldn't hear any noise - street noise, hall noise, or any other! It was wonderful, we were able to get some very much-needed rest. We stayed here while running the Edinburgh Marathon, it is close to the start line. Every night we walked to the Royal Mile for dinner or drinks. Modern updated rooms friendly staff great location we would stay here again. The race was windy!!

Overall, the hotel is very nice, with spacious, clean rooms and a great location in the city. Staff were friendly and everything seemed well run. However, I don't think it is truly deserving of 5 stars compared to previous hotel experiences. The shower wasn't great and the TV could be better. Wonderful hotel - very unique and we loved it. Conveniently located downtown and close to the Royal Mile. I would go back again.

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Glasshouse Hotel as a little treat, and what a treat it was. From the moment we approached until we left we were treated like VIP’s. Having never stayed in a hotel like it, I didn’t know what to expect, but it was pure class all the way from the staff, to the roof garden, our balcony, the honesty bar (which we didn’t […] have a chance to use) and beyond. We found it to be a very unintrusive hotel, quiet, clean and comfortable. One day I hope to have a bed as comfortable as the one we had. It’s the first time I have truly relaxed in a hotel. If your budget stretches to a suite, I would recommend it. Ideal if you’re celebrating or just want to feel special. Very close to main shopping areas, plenty of bars and restaurants, you’re spoilt for choice if you want to get outside the hotel, but we felt quite at home where we were and made good use of the balcony overlooked by Calton Hill in the sunshine. The Glasshouse Edinburgh was wonderful. The staff was all top notch. I spent the two months leading up to our stay, I was in contact with the people at the hotel, planning how best to do our engagement, and they were wonderful! The bed, especially since my fiance and I both have been studying abroad in our respective countries (staying on twin beds), was glorious. The king bed was amazingly soft and comfortable. The bathroom had heated floors and a towel warmer and was awesome. The shower was awesome (though, on occasion, the water went from warm to very cold for a moment) and the tub was nice. The view from our room was amazing, with calton hill in the background and the rooftop garden in the foreground. The rooftop garden was awesome, very well kept and made for a great place to pop the question! Overall, the Glasshouse was wonderful and we will definitely be going back for another visit! hopefully, they can fix the water but that was the only issue i could have had. Im our opinion not a five star hotel when compared to others in that classification in Edinburgh. Location is great, room was nice enough but felt we would have been better to save our money and go to the travel lodge along the road. Check in was a pain!....maybe we were just unlucky!? Some staff friendly and welcoming...others couldn't be bothered […] to lift their heads! The help yourself cupboard instead of a bar to socialise in was not our cup of tea either. Corridors go on forever and we hardly saw a soul! Cannot comment on the food as we did not eat in the hotel. Not only is this a lovely hotel, with wonderful artwork and modern rooms-including free wi-fi, but the staff is so helpful and friendly. When my wake-up call was not answered, they came up and knocked on the door! How considerate. I would always recommend this hotel to friends coming to Edinburgh.

I booked this hotel online expecting an 5 star experience, but was rather disappointed. The negatives: -Small / poorly arranged rooms -Extremely loud bathroom fixtures -I Had trouble with air conditioning and boiled -Small TV with poor resolution On the positive side: -The staff was great -The back yard nice and scenic -The location was good
