RIU Negril All Inclusive - Negril

The Good: grounds and buildings were nice. Loved the open air entertainment venue and the architecture. We had an ocean front room in the last building with "our own" personal beach. The room itself was good sized and clean and the mini bar was stocked every other day. The Bad: the food was less than mediocre, buffet style, school cafeteria grade :(. […] I decided to hold my opinion until we had tried one of the restaurants that required reservations, even the meal at the gourmet restaurant was not good. The chicken I ordered was very dry and the potatoes were instant. I am not a high maintenance snob or a drama queen but I expect to eat decently for what we were paying per night. The beach was hard packed sand and the bottom in the water was slimy and rocky, watch your toes! We probably would have thought that was the norm if we hadn't stayed at a different resort later in our stay that was soft and sandy in and out of the water. I would rate this resort as average. I didn't get to try the other restaurants so can't comment on the food there. The drinks from the beach bars are okay but are served in Dixie sized cups so bring a travel mug. All in all the beauty of the place and the food balance out so in my book, just okay. Baca selanjutnya

Wonderful hotel. The staff was very vibrant and friendly. Jerk chicken on the beach was heavenly. Really enjoyed the Hobie catamaran. Trip to ricks cafe was unforgettable. Chairs by the pool were hard to get, but the have plenty by the beach. Was upgraded to the junior suite on arrival! Was much better than the regular rooms. The view from the room […] is amazing! We were in building 3 which is a long walk to the main area, but is closer to the beach. Reservation at the formal dining was a pain to get, plus they do not have many choices. But the food was good. This was our first all inclusve experience and it was actually very pleasant. The buffets were very good with excellent choice of exotic fruits. We even got accomodated due to a cancellation at a 4 course dinner at Sir Andrew with children and it was a great experience. We only stayed 2 nites so did not get a chance to see all the activities. When we arived at the hotel we put awore passport at the reseption desk, we were told that we don`t need passport in paradise :) This was the start of the best vacation of our life. Staff at the hotel was very helpful, service minded and had a very good jamican spirit. No problem is the key word. When you are at the beach, you should take a trip whit […] one of the local guys. I can recomend MISTER PARTY, a very nice and sympatic guy. We went snorkiling whit our camera left in his boat, and this were no problem. You chould also take a trip down the beach outside the hotels area, stop and check out the lokal grilled lobster and feal the reagge spirit:)) -The minibar in the hotell room was always full. -The chicken jurk hut at the beach, check it out!! -The hotel area was big and quiet, perfect for children to run around. It many many good things to say about this hotell whit the staff and Jamaica, but you have to see it for your self!!!! Hotel was mediocre. A lot of food choices, but nothing that was that great. Great hotel for the price, considering all inclusive, but definitely average.

My boyfriend and I thought this hotel was beautiful! Our room was very nice and well maintained. It even had a built in liquor dispenser with 4 liquors to choose from. The food at the buffet(s) was exceptional, but we would recommend skipping the specialty restaurants because the service was mediocre at best and the food was just so-so. So overall, […] the resort was very nice...BUT it was OVER RUN with kids! Strollers everywhere. Kids as young as 5 or 6 being allowed to sit at the swim up bar where alcohol is being served. Screaming loud kids' games at the pool areas everyday. This place should be marketed as a luxury kiddie camp that allows parents to stay as well. It was our 3rd time in RIU, we have been to the Ochos Rios and Montigo Bay RIU. This time we came for 8 days and from the start we had problems; To begin with we booked a room for 4 and received a room for 2. Then they changed us to another room but a bed was missing and it took 4 hours to get it!!! Then there was a problem with water coming somewhere […] from the flor in the bathroom and out side our room, this was almost everyday..... Another issue was the soaps and body gel, or lack of them. We had to remind few days that there are 4 of us and therefore we need 4 towels... and the list just keeps on and on. I did not expect these minor problems, day by day from a place like RIU! I was disappointed more than once, unfortunately. I can say one thing for sure; I will not return to RIU in Negril. Baca selanjutnya

Outstanding staff . I had a great time, food selection was marvellous, entertainment great. The entire atmosphere was fabulous. This will be my vacation spot from now on.

The RIU is a beautiful resort hotel alone the famous beach strip in Negril. I checked in on Friday July 29, 2011 during the very busy party weekend and found the lobby crowded with visitors as expected. I got checked in very quickly. The staff offered me a drink & check-in was over before I could finish it. I wasn't too happy to find that my room was […] a reasonably long walk away from the lobby. The layout of the resort is a series of buildings all seperate from the lobby & dining facilities. The next thing i noticed very soon after getting to my room is that, although the description details clearly state "Wireless (high-speed) Internet access - complimentary" it fails to say that this is NOT accessable from your hotel room and ONLY available in the lobby. I run an internet company & having internet access is VERY important to me. I don't wan't to have to make a 5 minute walk (down 6 flights of stairs, through long hallways, then out in the unshelterd walkway) to the lobby whenever I need to read a work related email at 2am before I go to bed. This is even more of a task if it rains. That was probably my only gripe with the facility. The staff was ver pleasant, Especially one bartender, Kelly, who had us laughing & was very quick when serving. At the other bars I felt like I was at a sports bar & vying for attention. The Riu is a beautiful resort and the food is very good. The entertainment at the coliseum was not very good although the reggae band was nice to listen and dance to. The boat ride out to Rick's cafe was well worth it.

Upon arrival after a 3.5hour journey from Ocho Rios, I was advised at reception that they had no record of my booking. At first, I was unable to locate the email that I had printed off confirming my booking. Unconcerned, i advised reception that I would be able to access the email confirming my booking by logging into my email account, I was told by […] reception that I would be unable to access the internet via themselves. This surprised me as I had stayed at Jamaica Sunset Grande in Ocho Rios In May 2010 and the manager there had been extremely helpful. I located my booking confirmation email and was left waiting again . After a while, i was told that as they had no record of me the manager wanted me to leave a deposit of $200 so they could book me into my room . ( I was attending a wedding the next day and had been greeted in reception by scores of relatives who were also staying at the hotel and were unimpressed with the way I was being treated). After advising the manager that I had no intention of paying any additional money when I had produced my receipt acknowleging payment, I insisted on scouring the check - in list they had. I quickly discovered my name which had been ticked off for another guest sharing the same name. I had to insist that the manager admit that they had made an error and apologise, which was very half hearted. The excuse they used was the Public holiday - busy period. I wasnt even offered a drink whilst waiting for 1hour to sort. things out. It was a pity as the hotel itself was beautiful. restaurant staff were very friendly and night entertainment was reasonable. I had read other reviews and was worried about how well the hotel was going to be for my stay. After being at the resort I wondered if the bad reviews were for the RIU Tropical Bay because I didn't see the things they saw. RIU Club is a wonderful hotel. The people were friendly and I was never harrased. To eat at a sit down restaurant instead of the […] buffet you have to make reservations in person at 8AM. Luigi, the Italian restaurant, turns into a Brazilian Steakhouse on Tuesday nights. I ate there and Shadows. They were both good and a lot of food. The buffet was also really good with a large variety of food. Even some Jamaican food which was nice to try. The Jerk Hut which is located on the beach is only open from noon to 3, it needs to be a stop on your list. I felt very secure at this hotel. I ventured down to Negril for shopping at the craft market which our driver waited and watched out for me. They are a little pushy but that is how they make a living. I bought most of my souvenirs there. They will keep pushing you but just smile and say sorry have to go I am all done shopping. I had no problems. Stopped at Ricks to have an over priced frozen rum runner and it was worth just the short stop. Christopher was my driver and he was INCREDIBLE! He also took me to the Appleton Rum Distillery for my tour. He works at the taxi stand inside the front entrance. I used the tour service which is on the opposite side of the taxi stand inside the front entrance to book a zip line tour and Stanley's deep sea fishing trip, which I hooked a 130lb, 6ft Blue Marlin. Both were wonderful. Scuba Caribe which is there on the property was who I went scuba diving with. Myran had me do a review since it had been a year since I had dove. Some of the things I had forgotten he explained very well and was very patient and listened to the questions I asked, he made me feel confident to dive again. All excursions were well worth it. Hotel Stay was good, great night activities, food was good as well, had a vast array of dishes. The only problem I had the hotel was the fact that the staff at check in was not at all friendly and rushed us each time we had a question, was really short in their response

This hotel is beautiful, clean and clearly has the potential to be a five star however there was no A/C in the room. (In July?) Unless you get to the beach early there are no pool towels. The TV remote did not work until after the first day, the staff has no clue how to make mixed drinks instead they come up with their own recipe that is usually rum […] chased with something. It seems as if the dining room staff has never tasted the food because no one has a clue what to recommend. The person at the juice machine has no idea what juice they are serving . I worked for a company in the US that rates resorts and this resort would not have made the grade due to poor service. Riu Ocho Rios had a/c but no iron. I say provide irons to the room and when someone checks out you check the rooms and charge for missing items. Don’t deprive guest because of others poor behavior. This hotel is very nice. The exterior looked fantastic and very well maintained. The front desk staff was very nice. You have to do a lot of walking to get from the rooms to the activities and dining, but its well worth it. There was several fun activities to do at the hotel. The food was great. There are 5 different places to eat and they are all white […] service with very formal dining. Most of the vacationers were from Europe and didn't speak english so its hard to hang out with other vacationers. The hotel is pretty far away from the center of town so an expensive cab ride is necesary to go to any places outside of the resort. Don't do to the Disco, its very boring, but the bar is open in the Disco until 2am. All in all, very nice and I would stay again!!!! Baca selanjutnya

Negatives: The first thing notice about the hotel was the smell.. Almost as if they had a sewer problem... It was raining that weekend so in all fairness this could have contributed to the smell. The air conditioning unit was not working properly in our room. The ceiling above the shower had visible fungus growing on it due to the AC problem. It took […] the hotel 24hrs before making any adjustments. The food was mediocre and not very fulfilling for vegetarians. I was also very unhappy with the cocktails as they were also tasteless Positives: The hotel is quite big with a lot of restaurants and bars. The pool bar was a lovely idea and the hotel workers were quite fun and friendly. Andrew, the manager on duty, allowed us to check in three hours early. We had a drink in our hands whthin five minutes of arrival. We were upgraded to an ocean view room without asking. This is truely an outstanding hotel. the staff is well trained and extremely polite. the food was good and available 24/7. The entertainment could be better.

I have to say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed. I have stayed at many hotels and was staying at a total of 4 hotels on this particular trip. There is just no comparison. My friends and I loved this hotel to death and have vowed this will be the only hotel we will ever stay .

This property was a good value for the price. Overall good value and clean. Service was good but not 5 star. Staff could improve training.

This hotel is absolutely worth the price. We just got back from our honeymoon and we were both pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, entertainment, service and great food. Not to mention the natural beauty of the ocean and landscape. At no point in time did we feel like we were on a time schedule as far as hotel service and meal times. There was a good […] balance of activity and tranquility. Our first night we got up around 3:00am for breakfast. All inclusive included a well stocked bar and refrigerator in the hotel room (scotch, whiskey and rum also). Did I mention all u can eat. We had a 7 night stay and every day the food was fresh and had excellent variety to satisfy any taste including vegetarian. One of my favorite spots was the Jerk Hut on the beach. It was nice to see staff dedicated to the kids. The service was excellent we could have our sheets changed at almost any time and we never felt like we had to wait on line for anything when trying to get help. I feel encouraged to go to different islands where this hotel chain is located. Great Value! I believe this hotel is officially ranked at 3 stars but the service and food makes feel more like 4 1/2. The food,the location, the beach, the staff were all great, but the bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were too small.I will stay here again I just hope they change the bed comfort.

We chose this hotel for a family trip and that was a mistake. This hotel is not for family with young kids, the only thing there for them is a tiny pool, a slide and a swing. They have some other activities for them in the morning and in the afternoon but only from 4 years old. On top of that, the food is not outstanding, far from it. The only time […] we had good food was at our first dinner, there was some jamaican meals (curry goat, oxtail, ..) well cooked and that was it. Everything looks like it is leftover. Nevertheless, the beach is long and nice and it is easy to find a sunbed and entertainment is very good, we saw a show that was well organised.
