Really disappointing, can't reccommend
This hotel is tired and jaded, 3* at best. I have stayed in a few hotels during Covid and I appreciate everyone is working differently but that doesn't account for the poor breakfast choice, dated décor and lack lustre service

The hotel is very tired. Great location. Nice to have the pool but shame no loungers around it. Restaurant and bar service very slow. Unable to get a table for dinner our first night. At breakfast regularly had to wait 20 mins for a table and then 35 mins fo food.

Hotel public areas very good. Original features kept a nice atmosphere. Bedroom EXTREMELY disappointing. Bathroom needs a good clean. Shower too small to use. Bedroom too hot and not able to open the window enough to cool it. Window overlooking a wall which was so close couldn’t see anything

The Grand Perhaps Once Upon a Time
Hotel Lobby area looks great upon arrival, check in was easy and the covid safety measures in place were very good. Disappointed that there was no parking onsite and we had to park in the station car park, despite stating online that there was free parking. The room was spacious but very hot. we faced the railway station so leaving the window open at night was very noisy and made it difficult to sleep. the shower hose was broken and we flooded the bathroom, reported it to reception and explained what happened we tried to mop up as best we could and left the dirty towels in the bath. we were assured the problem would be rectified upon our return. when we got back the problem had been sorted however all the dirty towels were left in the bath!!! on checkout day someone came to clean the room before we had even checked out. all in all i dont think the room was worth the monies we paid, i think the hotel relies on its previous reputation. could cetrtainly do with a make over in places.

Incorrect star rating
The hotel needs work and is very outdated. The room i was in had pen scribbles on the wall. I certainly felt that the hotel should not be rated 4 star as its misleading and creates incorrect expectations.

Oh boy does this place need some work! The photograph looks nothing like the actual hotel today, which is covered with mildew from top to bottom, cracks in the paint, and generally just sad and uncared for. Breakfast was big but nothing was great. I would not advise unless you just have a specific need to be there. The staff were wonderful, and sheets/towels were clean, so no problems there. Just be ready to be depressed about the condition of the walls, floors, and damaged furniture, sinks and tubs, and electronics.
