An imposing building from the outside but the reception area is drab and the welcome was unenthusiastic. Our second floor room was newly decorated but evidently once part of a larger room with a tiny window that offered a view of the castle but let little light into the room itself. This was not helped by dark brown decor and dark curtains. The shower gave up the ghost after a minute or two - not great when you are covered in soap (a fact we did report to staff) and the taps were similarly challenged. However, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was good in an impressive room - again dark colours but this time it was well suited. Would I stay there again? Sadly no. It needs to be brighter in every respect.
The room was small and a bit drab. The food at breakfast and evening meal was good. The service at check in and for evening meal was good but at breakfast was dreadful. We had booked breakfast for 8 but were still sitting waiting to have our order taken at half past eight! We had to continually attract attention to ask for things, drinks, cutlery, toast, butter. I think we drew the short straw being served by a young lad who seemed to have no idea what he was doing. Other tables served by a young lady seemed to fare better. We asked for butter for the toast and were brought liquid butter in a ramekin that had obviously just come out of the dishwasher! All in all a disappointing experience for a stay that wasn’t particularly cheap.
Room noise terrible. We stayed in room 6 and the noise from room 7 was unbearable. You could hear every word they said. They seemed to be contractors who were loud with little respect. We informed management who had a word but this fell on deaf ears. Really spoilt our three night stay. Hotel, location, staff and parking good. Food ok.
The hotel was lovely and staff were very friendly.
This was perfect for a one-night stay for a single person. The single room is small but has been decorated nicely - they have given as much thought to this as they have the larger rooms. The staff are friendly and efficient. The location is superb.
Possibly the warmest and most welcoming staff I’ve met at any hotel. Nothing was too much trouble
The location was excellent so close to the castle. The room was small but modern decor and very clean. Only issue was shower pressure was hit and miss as we were on top floor. Hotel assured us they were looking into this. Breakfast in dining room and meals in bar next door were all good, plenty of choice and social distancing measures in place.
Nice room clean polite staff n good breakfast. Good place to visit attractions in surrounding areas.
The staff that were on, were amazing BUT having 2 staff in the whole of the bar, outside seating and hotel during the day and evening was terrible, they were absolutely run off there feet. Ridiculous, i understand the cost side of it and with the present climate but waiting over half an hour to place an order for food and drink when nobody else waiting to place a food order is unacceptable. We didn't eat there again as it was overpriced pub grub, restaurant wasn't open. Also the room that we stayed in was overpriced, basically a travel lodge room, very cramped. If having 1 of the deluxe suites they look beautiful. Couldn't get any water pressure in the shower, don't have a shower in a morning as you won't be able to get any water. Should have electric showers as water going hot and cold when anyone else turned a tap on. Also in the description of the rooms it stated air conditioning and garden view, inaccurate! Very clean. Staff amazing. Felt very sorry for them. Get some more staff on!
Limited staff sharing roles & responsibilities around the hotel. Given that the hotel should have been thoroughly deep cleaned after COVID19 lockdown allowing hotels to reopen, there was cobwebs on the dinning room window, thick layer of dust on skirting boards in bathroom & 1st drinks ordered at the bar had lipstick around the glass rim. However the food was lovely.
