Very clean little hostel with basic breakfast
Incredibly clean little hostel - rooms were basic, but spacious, toilets and bathrooms were always spotless and staff were lovely. Locationwise it wasn't necessarily right on the doorstep of anything, but if you're OK with walking and exploring on foot, Kyoto's on a block system, so relatively easy to navigate compared to other cities we'd been to and so the markets, Geisha district, the river, etc. were OK to reach with longer walks and there's also a bike rental shop a street away to help getting around too. Another major perk here was having the communal area as an alternative to sitting in rooms when doing research / grabbing a snack and liked that we could grab toast and coffee before heading out for the day.

Excellent Stay in the heart of Kyoto
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with R Star Hostel, we stayed in the suite of the hostel, this is very big area with 2 double beds (bed is little bit soft) and 1 or 2 futon beds on the floor if required. It is clean and well equiped with an ensuite bath room (shower over bath), separte toilet, kitchen with toaster and big table in the dinning area. Out of all the hostel / hotels we stayed in Japan, this hostel offers the best free breakfast with 6 different varieties of bread with healthy selections of wholemeal and seeds loaf, 3 different types of gourmet jams which are so yummy, it has a nice open kitchen with plenty area to spread for your meal time cooking etc. The hostel location is nice and quiet which is only 3 minutes walk from Gojo station ( 1 station north of Kyoto Station ), there is a direct bus to Gion area with 6 stops only. will definitely stay here again if visit Kyoto again in the future.

Location was good for us, it’s a 20minute walk from Kyoto station. The hostel itself was spotless and the private room (bunk beds and shared bathroom) was a decent size and much bigger than expected, comfy beds and again perfectly clean. Breakfast on offer is a selection of breads, jam, tea and coffee. Only down side was the walls are quite thin so you can hear next doors conversations clearly and doors opening/closing so if your a light sleeper this isn’t ideal! Nevertheless would recommend.

Super good hostel! I loved my stay here. Great staff, super clean and confy. The location also amazing, close to everything. Only 15 mins walking from Kyoto Station. You should def stay here!

A great hostel for a comfortable stay.Very near and clean with helpful staff. Breakfast needs improvement as only 4 different types of bread are provided for breakfast with tea/ coffee,need to include few more items.

Nice, clean and very friendly.
The hotel was nice for our family. The common area and kitchen area was a lovely surprise, nice and very clean and not busy. We can sit down to have dinner we bought from outside and can chat there for hours.
