Die Erdfunkstelle Fuchsstadt dient als Bodenstation für die Kommunikation mit Nachrichtensatelliten und ermöglicht unter anderem satellitengestützte Telefongespräche, Internet-Verbindungen und Fernsehsendungen. Zurzeit besteht die Erdfunkstelle aus mehr als 50 Parabolantennen, darunter zwei Antennen vom Typ A mit einem Durchmesser von 32 Metern und etwa 25 weitere mit jeweils mehr als 9,3 Metern. Die Erdfunkstelle ist damit eine der größten Satelliten-Kommunikationsanlagen der Welt.
