Nice but tatty
Check-in was easy but nobody there before 5 pm so no point being early. Security was good checking staff very helpful and friendly. Place needs a good clean though and does smell of damp. Continental breakfast what you would expect for the price.

4/10 Fair

Poor
Quick and easy check in. Friendly reception. Very tired, old, and dirty room. Smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Too small for 3 adults. Cigarette burn on bed cover and curtains. Dirty stains on underside of the top bunk. Pillows were extremely poor quality, lumpy and hardly worth having. Booked and paid for in advance on a non-refundable price. We only stayed because there were no crossings available to get back to UK that night otherwise I would have rather paid for another crossing (we were booked for the following morning) and forfeit the cost of the hotel room not to have stayed there! Breakfast was very basic. Self service, which was fine, but poor selection of bread, mini croissants, pains au chocolate, yogurt and corn flakes, but no milk for them. It was definitely cheap for a reason. Next time we'll pay a bit more and hopefully get something resembling a hotel room!

Avoid
I know it was cheap as we needed a stopover before catching the ferry. The place looks like its about to fall down. Another guest was walking in as we arrived and said it was worse still on the inside. We walked into the reception and walked back out before even checking in. It looks like a hotel used by the govenment for the homeless.

Paid for triple room and only got a double as I was with my 13 yr old boy he was not amused and slept on floor. The receptionist didn't seem to care just said you have enough beds for 2 people I did explain i paid for a triple, he didn't care. Shower was awfull just span on the wall as fitting loose shower curtain useless and flooded the room. Sheets had stains on them and what looked like cigarette burn on the duvet cover. Bins overflowing outside the front doors

not what you pay for
We had book this as a stop over and as they say you get what you pay for but i have the feeling that i did not get that on the photo's the beds were all on the floor , We book for 3 people, once in the room we had 2 single beds and on top a bunk bed ( of which the ladder was not that safe the room smelled of smoke very badly. when i asked if they had a new room i was told no they were full and they handed me a spray. (this shows me they know about the smell in the room or rooms as that had this at hand.( did not have to look for it) The shower work which was a good thing but if you had it on too long the floor in the bathroom started to also become wet. The room was like an oven and we tried to open the window to try and sleep but the noise outside made it so you could not see and if you shut the window the temp just when up. We had planned to have a early start to get to the ferrry, rond 5 am away but we packed up and hit the road at 3 am just because of the room. I would give this hotel a miss.

Adrian Tate's review
I had been camping which was awful. Managed to get a room at the last minute which was a real relief. Staff were very kind to me ,and the room was comfortable with everything a motorcyclist could ask for. Will use Hotel Heco when I return 👍

On bike trip ready to take the ferry to Dover.
I wish there had been a bike shed. Although fairly small there was room for them. I wish we had been on the ground floor. A great value for a great location - close to city gardens and the spectacular Hotel de Ville.

You see a hotel picture of a church on the booking page, the hotel is not the church but nearby a old terrible building. Verry noisy , the bathroom is old and a lot of things are broken. The info from ebookers.ie is not correct.

6/10 Good

The receptionist was friendly upon arrival. Secure parking for only €2 per day. €0.70 per person city tax. The room was average. Ideally could do with abit of modernisation. The door handle in the bathroom was broken. The toilet seat was chipped all over the lid. The bathroom basin tap didn't get warm but the shower was okay. The window allowed alot of wind noise in through the night which made sleeping difficult. Only 1 pillow per person which wasn't ideal. Bedding had cigarette burns in several areas. Walls seemed to have some yellow staining. Signs of damp around the bathroom. Communal areas were very run down / in need of repair. To sum up , a cheap and cheerful stay. You get what you pay for. Would use again but don't expect 5* when paying 2* prices.
