Housekeeping - Need to improve
The front desk staff had been helpful during our 1 week stay. The staff was kind to advise my daughter with her online purchase-delivery. The hotel location was good, closes to train stations and malls. The only disappointing was the house keeping.. half the time I was wondering did they actually clean the room or not. There was this bottle cap on the floor when I first checked in, and it was still on the floor when we checked out a week later. That didnt bother me that much thinking she / they could have missed it until the time I realized the cushion and the pillows on the bed was in the same position as I had left them in the morning! So I really do not know what kind of house-keeping they do. The bathroom wasnt well maintained, stained and moldy.

Though the hotel is OK you need to keep the following in mind 1 Room was very smokey 2 No English channels on the TV 3 Internet not the greatest 4 Room was not very clean especially the bathroom (I had to clean it myself) old shower Gel residue on the lower tiles 5 Could never figure out how to turn the heat down 6 Cigarette burns on most of the seats and the couch in our room 7 Floor tiles were badly stained The Good Stuff 1 The staff were amazing 2 The cleaning staff were amazing 3 The location was just amazing 4 The door guys were amazing 5 Nanjing was just amazing The hotel just needs to be refreshed majorly for westerners. Not having an english speaking tv channel was tough because our hotel in Shanghai had 2. Thanks for a great stay.

It's an apartment-hotel style. Probbaly more suited to business stay (hence the huge desk in the room). Hot water limited to "20 minutes" (!!). The breakfast was so-so.

Varying factors of good and bad
First of all, for the price and the size of the room, it is extremely worth the price. Location is near shopping Malls and 10-15mins away from MRT station. Receptionists are basically friendly and speaks both English and Mandarin. Advanced booking of taxi can be done over the counter. However, I am not sure about the cleanliness. My worn indoor slippers were never changed. There were signs of forgetfulness like omitting to wash cups or forgot to change toilet floor maps etc. There are varying standards of service. While Receptionists were friendly, the IT Technicians were not so technical savvy and good at problem solving. While I could not connect to my internet, the technician changed wiring and router and it still didn’t work. In the end, he told me no solution and seems to want me to take the issue in my stride, until I prompt him for a second opinion and the next day another technician told me that my access to overseas websites is blocked. While I ask the housekeeper on how to on the heater, she looked very unfriendly. I felt my room was without aircon for days although I didn’t mind too much since it is cold these few days. I didn’t like the shopping around me. All expensive stuff and the mrt station is still quite a walk away. But the location of the metro station 新街口 is still convenient to places of interest such as Confucius temple. The rating of this hotel would be subjective, depending on one’s preferences and priorities.

Very roomy. Excellent location. Close to Subway. A Starbucks just cross the street. Room has a full-size business desk, perfect for me on a business trip. Would be superior if better in-room instant coffee is provided. Overall very happy.

Great location & room size but lacking basics.
The hotel is in a great location and the room was a generous size for our party of 3. However insufficient towels/bottled water etc were supplied for the occupants (providing at least 3 towels for 3 booked adults would surely be hotels-101) & we had to wait ages at reception to request these on consecutive days. Staff appeared to indicate we were making unnecessary requests (do they share their bath towels?!) We were allocated a smoking room despite requesting non-smoking, cleaning of the room was minimal/non-existent & the hotel lifts were unbelievably slow, had to allow 5 - 10 additional minutes to get to/from our 26th floor room. Would consider booking again only for the location & room size.

Located off of the metro in a good location
Overall our experience was pleasant. The hotel staff did not speak much if any English and often went off to help other guests while serving you. Multi-tasking at its worst.

Good downtown hotel
• The Cumberland Boutique Hotel website's claim to be located only two minutes walk to the nearest metro train station is little ambitious, but it's close enough. • The Blue Frog Bar & Grill restaurant is located within the hotel, and they make excellent coffee. They're also very friendly, but in the evening it transforms into a raucous bar . . . depending on your circumstances this could be good or bad. • The nearby branch of the 'Element Fresh' restaurant chain offers higher quality cuisine in a more spacious and relaxed atmosphere than the Blue Frog, with tables spilling out onto Zhongshan Road.

Good Location
Fantastic location, close to many sightseers, shopping and good local food. The shower is mouldy and carpet in the room was extremely dirty which need to be replace, and TV was broken too. Staff were friendly and helpful. By the way, air conditioning was turned off in April???
