A Little Gem
Very special place in the grounds of an interesting Chinese Temple which can get rather busy. It is on a beach mainly used by locals with small fishing boats but great for swimming at the far end. There are many eateries and a Tesco nearby.
Comfortable, clean and friendly.
The more than adequate set breakfast of fried eggs, sausages, slices of meat, baked beans and toast was served in the small dining area enabling conversation with other guests.
The only thing that disturbed me was the lack of view from our room. The windows had wooden shutters permanently closed from the outside apparently to keep out the mosquitoes. As we were only there for two nights and were out most of the day this was not a huge problem and It certainly won’t put me off staying there again.
I recommend the 8 Boutique to anyone who wants a good place to stay which is just that little bit different.

Simple, with great service, and close to the ocean. There is only a parking lot and a bit of beach between the hotel and the water.

It doesn't look like much on the outside (much better to look away from the building towards the open sea!), but the room is nice and spacious. Not all of the windows seal up completely, but the a/c kept the room comfortable. The shower worked great. I wished there had been a small refrigerator in the room, but there was one downstairs in the office/breakfast area. I would stay here again if I needed a budget option in this convenient location!

Above a Chinese Buddhist temple. Next to a cute beach. But that is ruined by evening crowds and nasty dogs on beach in the morning.
Decent air conditioning but must be left on at all times to get decent temperature.
Good breakfast.

Comfortable hotel by the sea
The owner was really friendly as well as the workers. The room was comfortable and it is exactly like the pictures. With the price given, it has exceeded the expectation. Although the heater has a bit of problem, otherwise it is all good and the TV has Astro. Parking wise is a bit of a nightmare since it is closed to the tourist attraction, but the parking fees only paid once and it will all be good. Love the memories and the time spent in the hotel, hope there is next time.

Big failure!!!
Very poor! Smokey, noisy room. (Barking dogs in the night, Hotel owner also yelling around bedtime,) Ppwer outage. TV set not operational. Booked a room with breakfast for two ppl, but hotel owner refused to give another slice of toast. Check-in desastrous. Confusion over durance of stay, guest name and passport numbers. Seem to understand 5% of English. Supervised during breakfast the action of the guests, just as uf he wanted to restrict the consumption of tea and coffee.
Never, ever again!!!

weekend off trip
The hotel is super close to the beach, much closer than what I've expected.
The hotel offered us a spacious room with a bath tub that is big enough for an average Asian guy to take a comfortable bath.
The down side of the the hotel is the Indonesian guy works there does't speak much English.

An ideal place to rest
Helpful and friendly hotel staff.
Very pleasant and spacious room for a modern look hotel.
Room is very well maintained and clean.
Though the bedding is not as premium but I did had a good sleep.
Very safe place. Minimal parking fees but its okay. No big deal.
Could visit the Secret Garden day and night.
Breakfast was really good. Fresh from the stove.
Hope the hotel owner could expand upper floors in the future. Better view from higher floor. Really nice to see the sea

Gem in Penang
Great value and extremely kind & helpful owner. Right beside multiple temples, including one that has a popular light display at night. Also next to a nice crab restaurant that gets quite crowded.
