10/10 Exceptional

We loved our stay in this unique place. The staff was warm and welcoming and very accommodating and the surrounding area was gorgeous to wander. Given the age of the Inn, the facilities are excellent, although an upgrade in the bathroom, especially the shower, would be nice. Overall though, I highly recommend this wonderful, historic, and charming place!

Disappointing and overpriced.
Check in was chaos with our room not ready and different excuses being made. You will be allocated an inferior room with fake beams and tatty modern furniture in an annexe if you don’t specify the exact room you want ( but be charged the same price ) Parking is very tight , we were glad we took our older car. Our bathroom was little more than a broom cupboard with a pokey cubicle and no water pressure. Any ghostly activities are more likely to be other people snoring , plumbing issues or the battery dying in your smoke detector. Food here is pretty awful , very limited choice for breakfast . Bar meals only in the evening due to lack of staff. No nice finishing touches or attention to detail we get in similar priced hotels elsewhere. It’s a beautiful old hotel let down by poor management relying on the character of the place to fill it .

Interesting very old building with a lot of character. The desk staff seemed irritated and inconvenienced to be welcoming guests, but the gentleman who showed us to our room was very friendly and joyful.

What a find ….
What a find. Fascinating hotel, best staff I’ve come across in a long time, great food and drink. Highly recommend a stay and Rye itself if beautiful.

Historic Inn with oodles of character
Love the Mermaid Inn, it is steeped in history, lots of tales of smugglers and ghosts and full of character. All in the beautiful historic town on Rye with excellent shopping and places to visit.

After battling several cancelled trains due to Storm Eunice, we received a very warm welcome from the front desk. We stayed in room 20 and this was a clean, characterful space with a four poster bed. The historical building of the hotel is incredible, and it's well worth having a drink there in the guests-only bar too.

Great ambiance, log fires and cozy nooks. I would rate the restaurant far lower than the hotel. Had lobster which was more rubber than food, terribly over-cooked. Wait staff were very attentive and helpful.

LOVE THIS PLACE!

Disappointing.
This hotel is very old and really quite lovely but the bathrooms are outdated. Our room was advertised as coming with a shower, but it was a hand held. There wasn’t enough height to stand up and there was no water pressure. Very unpleasant. The restaurant is overpriced for mediocre food. The staff did everything they could to make our evening pleasant but the poor quality of our meal over-rode their efforts. I’d never recommend this hotel.
