Run down
The place seriously needs some work. Our room had concave floors. It’s very noisy. We booked the hotel because it had a kitchenette, but there were no pots, pans, forks, spoons, plates, etc. the stove and stove oven worked but there was no way to use them without pots or trays. The carpets were dirty. The bathroom ceiling is dirty. The bed was uncomfortable. The building is beautiful, even the elevator is charming. The lobby is lovely to stop into. But I absolutely would not recommend staying here unless it were renovated.

Good stay but upgrades needed.
Rooms are very very long in the tooth. They really need to do some basic maintenance & upgrading. We had a two bedroom, only one room had a lamp, the other an overhead ceiling light, weird. The toilet paper was so thin, you had to use 3X’s the amount. Holes in the wall, no stopper in the sink, picture frame & picture completely falling apart. We were on the street side. A lot of noise until about midnight, maybe some dbl or triple panes windows would be in order for those rooms. However, the bedding was super comfortable. I realize it’s historic but the upgrades and basic maintenance would be nice. Perfect location for everything right there on Main St. Staff very friendly. I stay there every time I’m in Placerville and that won’t change. It’s a good value but some basics need to be addressed.

A pleasant stay in an old historic hotel
This hotel was built in 1857, so it is very old. We did not expect the Marriott, but some things could be improved upon. Unfortunately, the chairs in the room were very old and uncomfortable so we decided to read down in the lobby on a tufted couch. Much better option. Plus it was very entertaining to watch the comings and goings happening in the lobby. The Queen bed was not the most comfortable, and could use an replacement update. Also, the deodorant that they use to freshen the room is was too STRONG. Fortunately, the rooms have 2 windows that we could open all the way to bring in fresh air. Without that option, we would not have been able to stay in the room. We did love the uniqueness of the hotel and its decorations and history. There is a book in the lobby with several stories about the hotel and its history. The old elevator was an adventure to be sure. The beautiful staircase was an option if you don't want to brave the elevator. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. There are so many shopping options in the area, and lots of choices for places to eat. We were there to see my grand daughter walk in the holiday parade with her 4-H club. It was a special occasion, but next time I will book a room facing the street. If you want a unique experience, give this hotel a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Historic Hotel
It’s a historic hotel in the old town of Placerville. The staff were very friendly. We had parking for our car. The bed wasn’t very comfortable but the room was quiet. It was great to be in walking distance of shops and wonderful restaurants!
