Filthy, run down, discriminatory treatment.
We went to the Royal Sunset with 6 of our Tongan young friends who help us at a humanitarian clinic we work in. We are leaving Tonga and wanted to thank them for all they do. We decided to spend the night at the Royal Sunset. The rooms were filthy. The linens were stained and the rooms were unbearably hot. The pool water was brown. Of the 3 kayaks that were available for use, 2 took on water as soon as you pulled them into the ocean. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our lunch and we were served after a group of Caucasian day guests who arrived 45 minutes at the restaurant after we did. Our group was turned away from the snorkelling boat and told to take the next one, even though we were first in line waiting to go. My husband and I just sat and watched in amazement all day as our Tongan young guests were treated to the ultimate in racial discrimination. We left on the 4pm boat going back to Tongapatu and spent a wonderful night at the Tanoa Hotel where our young friends were treated as equal guests to everyone else staying at the resort. Please do not ever go to the Royal Sunset!
