My stay at Sala got off on the wrong foot when they forgot to pick me up at the airport. I had pre-arranged the pick up and gotten confirmation via email, but when I arrived no one was there. The Malé airport doesn't have wifi, so I had to beg staff from a lounge to take mercy on me and contact the hotel on my behalf. The transfer consisted of a dude meeting me and escorting me on a ferry from the airport to Malé itself, then when we couldn't find a taxi we walked to the hotel (you're better off just taking a taxi from the airport). At check in the manager claimed they didn't have my arrival info, and when I produced my email showing they did, he said, "A misunderstanding!" Saying sorry goes a long way, but that didn't happen here. The hotel itself is serviceable, with strong wi-fi and an enjoyable Thai restaurant (inexplicably decorated with photos of Venice). The rooms are simple but comfortable and clean. Following the pick-up fiasco I found staff to be accommodating and warm, as they contacted my resort to arrange my onward transport, and had breakfast ready for me at 6 am, which was unexpected and helpful.
