Wonderful Hogmanay stay with attentive host!
David was a fantastic B&B host. Very attentive and provided a lovely breakfast on the morning of New Year’s Day. Easy to get into the city centre with a few regular bus options. Would recommend staying here!

Go Back in Time
The proprietor David was a lovely man. His breakfasts were tasty and delicious. Good B&B for an old-school stay. Old Georgian home so if you like a historic stay, this is it.

Lovely place!!!
Lovely, elegant old home in a quiet neighborhood. The only problem was that I didn’t do a good job of getting arrival instructions. The bus from the city stops nearby but then, in the dark, it was a little tricky to find. The room and bath were very comfortable and welcoming. I had to leave early but I’m sure breakfast would have been nice. Btw, Uber doesn’t come to your exact location - be sure you figure their location out - again, I was doing that in the dark of early morning. Figure the location issues out before you go and you are sure to have a lovely stay!!

We only stayed one night whilst visiting family but would definitely go back. David was lovely, so friendly and helpful. The room we had was huge and the bed very comfy. Quiet room and not too hot. There was an additional heater and loads of blankets though if you were cold. I don't like a warm room.
Breakfast was cooked to order and lots of healthy options too.
Beautiful house.

Property and owner both need help.
If you are the sort that would just love to spend a weekend with your eccentric octogenarian great-uncle that you've never met before, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Our stay at Spylaw Bank House was our first night in UK. David our host was so keen to please and help us. We arrived late in the day and he booked us into a local restaurant for dinner, showed us to our room, explained everything we needed to know. We woke to the fresh and fragrant smell of the flora/trees outside our window. Our home cooked full breakfast was really good and fresh pressed coffee. Spylaw Bank House was easy to find, close the village, quiet and restful. Loved our stay.

Quality At Spylaw
Having forgotten about this reservation (made over a year ago in anticipation of the Tattoo), I would have missed it completely but for a call with a query from the host, David. I managed re rearrange my plans and I'm so glad I did. David is a charming host and made me feel so welcome. It was clear at breakfast that everyone shared this feeling. David took a genuine interest to ensure his guests had a positive trip to Edinburgh. Breakfast, whilst I'm on the subject was delicious with excellent proper coffee.
My room was the master bedroom and didn't disappoint. The Superking bed was comfortable but the highlight was the exquisite bed linen. Similarly, the curtains which I drew at night, were heavy and lined; just beautiful.
Having a proper teapot was a welcome surprise. Tea is so much better made properly so I really appreciated this with the matching crockery. The tea and coffee were quality brands. There was also a little fridge which would be handy for a longer stay for water, snacks or just to keep the champagne chilled. These little touches elevated the experience.
The bathroom was large with everything I could need including cleansing pads, cotton buds and toiletries.
What else can I say? I could snip about a bit of dust or some wear and tear here and there but this is to be expected with such a large and period property. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Spylaw. The city centre just 20 minutes on the 44 at the corner.
