A fantastic stay!
We had an absolutely fantastic time at Mizunoto. The shuttle service was perfectly on time to meet us at the train station which took us to the hotel for a very smooth check in process. We found a lovely gift from the hotel in our room for our Wedding Anniversary (Thank you!) The evening meal and breakfast were both absolutely delicious and there was so much food! All the services and staff were fantastic. Highly recommend! We'd love to come back one day. Thank you!

Beautiful ryokan in Hakone hills
Great half board ryokan with public and private hot springs. The food was great although a little repetitive. Only comment is that the directions to the hotel were not correct and we ended up on a hillside. We had to call the hotel to have them come and get us. Road was impossible to climb. We had gotten off the bus too early but had followed directions accurately. Remainder of stay was great. We were close enough to catch a bus to Lake Ashinoko and see Mt Fuji. Beautiful area!

Highly recommended traditional Japanese onsen
The property is a little bit away from the train station and up the hill, but shuttle is provided between 1 and 5 pm every day for pickup. We arrived later, and decided to walk despite being given the option to have them pick us up by request. Checkin was simple and straightforward, we were given instructions on paper and in English. The hotel is a little older, but meticulously maintained cleanliness made up for it. We stayed only one night, and were pleasantly surprised that “half-board” means dinner and breakfast included. The food was fantastic- high end Japanese several course meal. The room was large and Japanese futons comfortable. We had an outdoor tub on our balcony and enjoyed soaking in it the first evening. Hotel also has a public onsen with several private options that do not require reservations. You just need to check if the space is open. We took advantage of it the next morning as we were able to extend our stay for several hours. The onset tub is in the garden area with lots of greenery, and it was just magical to soak in it. There is coffee and tea self service in the lobby, but the tiny kitchen in the room also had everything needed for a cup of fresh ground and brewed coffee or tea. Overall, we enjoyed our brief visit and wished we had more time to spend in the area.

Very nice room. If you like Japanese food the Kiseki is outstanding. There are 3 private I send that are first come first serve but we were able to use them. Just have to be flexible and check in at different times. They also have a public onsen that is separated by gender. The dinner and breakfast was beyond everything but if you don’t like Japanese food this place might not be right for you.

This is a awesome onsen hotel. Highly recommend the room with private onsen. The view is so relaxing. I guess it will be more beautiful in autumn. All building and interior are beautifully designed. The food is delicious for both dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend the BBQ option for dinner. Free drink is provided during dinner with wine option. There are also free milk, ice cream available for you to enjoy after using the onsen.

This hotel/resort does provide a free shuttle service from 3-5pm (with no reservations) at the Kowakidani station. They will send you an email the day of your arrival inquiring about your arrival time. If you arrive outside that time, they can make arrangements. Overall, getting to Hakone seemed stressful on Google maps, but it was actually EXTREMELY charming taking all the local transportation (switchback trains, etc.) through this city. It was incredibly charming riding up the mountain, and when we arrived at Kowakidani station, the shuttle was right there to pick us up and take us to the hotel. Although the staff didn't speak too much English, this wasn't a problem. They offered an English map of the facility and directions on how to use the onsen. The hotel offers both dinner and breakfast. For our dinner, we had the options to order BBQ or Sukiyaki dinner. We loved the BBQ option (but tried both for the experience). Breakfast is a traditional Japanese breakfast, but we did notice some other foreigners ordering Western style breakfast too. If you have children, be sure that the front desk is aware of this because they have separate smaller meal for children. Overall, the onsens were wonderful. We tried multiple ones and they switch out the gender onsens every morning.

Incredible Relaxing Stay Mizunoto!
I absolutely loved my stay here!! As a disclaimer, this was my third onsen and first ryokan I visited, and I typically prefer new, glass-heavy hotels to ensure cleanliness of the facilities. Although I was initially hesitant booking Mizunoto due to the old-appearing pictures on their website, I ended up completely loving my entire experience!! The double room in the main building I booked was much bigger than I was expecting (even had a small entry area with a mirror and closet), and things were very clean and well kept! They had many free amenities that were a welcome surprise, including a free shuttle to and from Kowakidani Station, in room snacks, dispenser for coffee/tea, and milk/popsicles/yakult after baths, and even late night ramen. Their hospitality was second to none, and I felt so welcomed by the staff. Both dinner and breakfast are included, with multiple times available. The standout though were their onsens— between the three private baths and the 3-4 baths on each side in each building (they switch men and women sides so you get to experience ~7 public baths in each building), I spent hours in the many different onsens and felt so relaxed! I also received an incredible massage. In addition, the hotel had a great location, only a five minute walk from the buses, which can easily take you down to Lake Aishi, Gora area, and Open Air Museum (the time tables and google were quite reliable). The only thing I would change is about my stay was to stay longer!!
