    Åre offers a range of slopes for both advanced skiers and families with children in Sweden. The prominent ski resort is in the county of Jämtland, some 600 km from Stockholm. One of the easiest ways to get there is by taking a flight to Östersund, followed by an airport coach. 

    An aerial tramway takes you up Mt. Åreskutan, where you can enjoy amazing views and fantastic skiing. Enjoy a nice cup of coffee and pastries at Toppstugan (highest cafe in Sweden) or Mr Bramwells Wigwam in the Tegefjäll ski area.

    Sälen

    A wide varitey of slopes to suit every skier

    Sälen has slopes to suit all, whether you wish to snowplough, slalom, or ski off-piste. The ski area is in Dalarna, some 20 km from the Norwegian border. Spend a day on the long slopes of Lindvallen and Gustavsbacken or the wide carving slopes on the eastern side of Tandadålen. 

    If you're a bit unsteady on your skis, make your way to the large beginners' area Trollbäcken at Hundfjället. Another good option is the SkiStar Fun Ride adventure ski area. Refuel with a classic pub meal at excellent diners such as the Lodge Bar at Experiumtorget or O’Learys.

    Hemavan

    Ski, ride a snow scooter and try heli-skiing at Hemavan

    Hemavan is the largest ski resort in northern Sweden, offering 10 lifts, 29 slopes, 3 dedicated children’s areas, a snowpark, and a ski cross arena. It's located in the county of Västerbotten, around 40 km from the Norwegian border. You can get there by car, flight or take the Lapplandspilen bus from Stockholm. 

    Here, you can whiz down the winding slopes of Ingemarbacken and Anjabacken or explore off-piste areas. Heli-skiing is a must-try – a helicopter takes you to one or more mountain tops where you can enjoy skiing on untouched powder. After a long day on the slopes, unwind with a delicious meal at the famous Björk Topprestaurang & Fjällbar.

    Vemdalen is a massive ski area with 3 excellent ski resorts, all at high altitudes. Located in Jämtland County, you can easily get there by car, train or bus. The southerly resort of Björnrike is accessible via an express lift. 

    Challenge yourself to a run down the tough slopes at Klövsjö, or explore Storhogna, where you can combine skiing with a relaxing spa experience. Finish the day with an evening meal or après ski at Björnrikegården. Webcams allow you to check for weather conditions in Vemdalen before your visit.

    Duved

    A great ski resort for leisurely downhill skiing

    Duved offers a calm pace, along with lengthy, wide, and well-pisted slopes. The ski area is approximately 10 km west of Åre, and easily accessed via ski bus. Take the chairlift up to the top of Mullfjäll and glide down the slopes at a leisurely pace. 

    Spend your time skiing the well-prepared cross-country trails, or enjoy freeride skiing in freshly fallen snow. Duved’s ski system is linked to Tegefjäll, so it's a good idea to take the Leråliften ski lift and discover what that area has to offer. Ski buses quickly take you to Åre town centre, where you can enjoy a tasty meal and do some shopping.

You can get there by train or bus from the cities of Mora or Borlänge, or the Fjällexpressen bus from Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. 

    You can enjoy early morning or night skiing at Stöten's World Cup slope. Stöten has the longest slope in Sälen, spanning 3 km across varying terrain. Besides skiing and snowboarding, you can discover the beautiful mountain scenery on a scooter safari or unwind in a sauna at Vattufjäll.

    Riksgränsen

    Experience challenging and winding slopes

    Riksgränsen is a great place to experience some fantastic skiing in Sweden, thanks to 29 pistes and numerous off-piste alternatives. Not quite surprisingly, given that its name means “national border”, the ski resort is as far north in Sweden as you can get. 

    It's easiest to take a flight from Stockholm to Kiruna, followed by bus, train, or car to Riksgränsen. You can venture out onto challenging runs like “Uffes Vägg” and “Rimfors” or try heli-skiing for an extraordinary experience. End the day with a tasty meal and drinks at Lappis or Lapplandia Restaurant.

    Romme

    Where ultramodern lifts can take you to well-pisted slopes

    Romme offers easily accessible skiing on 33 slopes from 2 mountain peaks. Located in the southern part of Dalarna County, the ski area is within a 2.5-hour drive from Stockholm. You can board ski coaches from many locations in Sweden. 

    In Romme, fine-tune your technique by tackling the curves of long and easy slopes all the way down to Romme Valley.  A fast lift can take you back up to the top of Solklint. Test out the more challenging black pistes of Solstinget and Älgkyssen or keep to the easy slopes of Bumerangen and Torkels Brott.

    Lofsdalen

    Venture out onto 25 downhill slopes

    Lofsdalen is a small Swedish mountain village with around 25 downhill ski slopes and 122 km of cross-country ski trails. There are scooter trails on the mountain, with rails and jumps offering various degrees of difficulty. Practice your skills at the ski cross courses or work on your freeriding at Blå Linjen or Äventyret. 

    Night skiing is available at Toppen and Loffebacken on certain days, so you can hit the illuminated slopes after sunset. Lofsdalen is around 500 km from Stockholm, and accessible via car, bus, train and plane.
