Learn more about La Jolla
Watching sea lions bask on rocky outcrops at La Jolla Cove feels like nature's most entertaining show. The tide pools reveal miniature underwater worlds where starfish and anemones create living art. At Torrey Pines State Reserve, hiking trails wind along dramatic cliffs with Pacific views that make stopping every few steps mandatory. The brutalist masterpiece of Geisel Library at UCSD looks like it might lift off into space at any moment. Birch Aquarium showcases local marine life with tanks that seem to bring the ocean indoors. For the perfect day, grab fish tacos from a local spot before heading to Windansea Beach, where skilled surfers make impossible waves look easy.

Cormorant Boutique Hotel
"I wanted to love this hotel as its boutique style in a fantastic location and I love a boutique hotel. However, we were let down by the location of the room unfortunately. The room itself was great with very comfy beds and a separate living area. However, the noise levels experienced in these ‘accessible’ rooms on the side street was far and away the worse noise I’ve ever experienced in any hotel in any city I’ve stayed in and I’ve stayed in NYC, Hong Kong, Delhi etc. From 5am there was vacuuming going on in the hotel corridor above us, which sounded like they were actually in our room due to the hard flooring, followed by truck after truck outside making deliveries, collecting refuse etc. and this happened every morning until around 9am or later, it was relentless! At 3 am on the first morning we had brown water running through the bathroom extractor fan onto the floor, which was quickly rectified (thank you) but was told there was no other rooms with 2 beds available so to ask to move due to the incredible noise levels, would have been futile I think. We couldn’t wait to check out and go to our next destination. Such a shame. What I will say about this hotel is that the staff were incredible and went above and beyond for each guest, they are a real credit to the establishment, look after them!"

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in La Jolla
- Book for the cheapest times: Visiting La Jolla on a budget can be a delightful experience, especially in January, November, and December when hotel prices may drop to lower prices. A stay of at least 3 to 4 days is ideal for exploring the key landmarks, historical sites, and cultural attractions such as the sea, beach, sunsets, surfing spots, university, aquarium, dining options, nature trails, birdwatching spots, and seafood eateries. These months promise great value for money and an affordable escape without compromising on the rich cultural and natural heritage of La Jolla.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: You may discover attractive savings on La Jolla hotels by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com. If you are planning a spontaneous trip, check the Last-Minute Deals section for potentially reduced rates as your travel date nears. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available through the app allows travellers to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see price drops or room availability updates. Enable email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and special promotions for a timely last-minute getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates could help you save on your stay at a La Jolla hotel. For those seeking distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels may offer a more personalised experience and occasionally better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we might suggest more affordable dates to help you potentially secure a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels in close proximity to the city centre usually tend to be pricier, but thanks to La Jolla's excellent public transport links, you may find an independent hotel further afield that is more likely to be affordable while remaining well connected. For those keen to discover alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even nearby, lesser-known towns, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
