Downtown Wilmington
City centre Wilmington charms visitors with its historic riverfront magic and timeless character. Stroll the mile-long Riverwalk where seagulls call and riverboats drift past antebellum mansions and Victorian shopfronts. The gorgeous Thalian Hall anchors a district where gas-lit streetlamps illuminate cobblestone streets and centuries-old architecture. Southern cuisine rules the food scene with farm-to-table restaurants and waterfront seafood joints keeping hunger at bay. Boutique hotels and B&Bs housed in converted mansions offer cosy spots to crash after exploring the compact, walkable grid or catching a show at the Wilson Centre.

Riverfront District
Stroll along Cape Fear River's scenic boardwalk where historic charm meets waterfront beauty. The Riverfront District buzzes with shops and eateries tucked into 18th-century buildings. You'll spot the impressive USS North Carolina Battleship while exploring cobblestone streets dotted with museums, the Wilson Centre, and the historic Bellamy Mansion. Waterfront dining serves up fresh seafood with river views, though prices reflect the prime location. Most attractions are within easy walking distance despite the charming but uneven cobblestones. The free city centre trolley connects major sites, and boutique hotels in restored historic buildings offer period charm with modern comforts.

Wilmington Historic District
Cobblestone streets lead past grand antebellum mansions and Victorian homes to the scenic Cape Fear Riverwalk in Wilmington's Historic District. Thalian Hall anchors the cultural scene with performances while horse-drawn carriages transport visitors through centuries of preserved architecture. History buffs can explore the Bellamy Mansion Museum while shoppers browse galleries housed in converted cotton warehouses. The district offers Southern cuisine and fresh seafood in restaurants with river views. A free city centre trolley connects major sites, though the compact area is easily walkable despite some uneven cobblestones. Charming bed and breakfasts in historic mansions provide authentic lodging options with period furnishings and personal service.

Wrightsville Sound
Wrightsville Sound gives you the best of both worlds - coastal calm just minutes from Wrightsville Beach's sandy shores. The tree-lined streets and waterfront views create a peaceful retreat where you can kayak along the Intracoastal Waterway or take a quick drive to the beach. Nearby attractions include New Hanover County Arboretum and the charming Wrightsville Beach Museum of History. This area is primarily residential, with holiday homes and condos rather than hotels. You'll need a car to access dining options and shopping, which are limited within Wrightsville Sound itself. The quiet atmosphere and natural beauty make it perfect for travellers seeking an authentic coastal living experience away from tourist crowds.

South Front District
Wilmington's South Front District neighbourhood offers attractions, including Waterline Brewing Co..

Wilmington and related destinations
Wander the historic riverfront where colourful shops and seafood restaurants serve the day's catch alongside the Cape Fear River. The USS North Carolina, a decommissioned WWII battleship, stands as a floating museum across from city centre. Film buffs might recognise streets from 'One Tree Hill' or 'Dawson's Creek' – Wilmington hosts one of America's largest production facilities outside California. The Riverwalk offers perfect sunset views before heading to Thalian Hall for live performances in a 19th-century theatre. Nearby beaches beckon when city exploration ends, while the Cape Fear Museum reveals local history from prehistoric times to present day. University energy keeps the city centre scene lively with cafes and music venues where students mix with locals.

Baymont by Wyndham Wilmington
"N/a"
Best Western Plus Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach
"Nice place and location to stayed especially right next to Costco 😍Friendly staffs. Breakfast was great. Room clean. The only disappointment was the elevator very hot . The housekeeping only made 1 bed instead of 2. We would love to stay again."
Tru By Hilton Wilmington Wrightsville Beach
"Great Stay"
Wingate by Wyndham - Wilmington
"The man who helped me at check-in was excellent. He quickly accommodated my request for a higher floor and didn't charge me extra even though it was a larger room. Although, a bit dated, the hotel is well taken care of. I did have a cockroach show up in the bathroom one day, however, it was dying, which to me means they probably had the property sprayed recently for bugs which is a good thing. The location was close to the beach, Walmart, and fast food restaurants. The area surrounding the hotel was okay but had a bit of riffraff hanging around the outskirts of the property. I never had an issue but I didn't come and go in the evenings. I always felt safe inside the hotel. The bed was really comfortable and the hotel was quiet. It was a great hotel for the price."
Coastal Inn & Suites - Wilmington, NC
"Clean room, nice staff"
Comfort Inn University
"Pillows need to be better"
Spark by Hilton Wilmington
"Decent hotel. Basic good breakfast. Good coffee. It kind of feels like motel 6 and Hilton had a baby but it was very clean and efficient with top notch customer service from the staff. My only complaint was a staff member smoking near the entrance. Some people don’t do well walking through that."
Sleep Inn Wilmington near University
"This place was perfect when we went to drop off our kids to UNCW! It’s Just minutes down the road from there! The staff is actually super friendly! The rooms were clean… We did not use the pool but I like that it was open until 10 PM in festival. The continental breakfast was open until 10 AM!!! I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in a hotel that had breakfast till 10 AM especially on a weekday…so I really appreciated that!!"
Hotel Ballast Wilmington, Tapestry Collection by Hilton
"Always a pleasure to stay here."

For those looking to make the most of their trip, staying for at least 2 to 3 days is recommended to fully immerse oneself in the city’s rich history and cultural attractions. Visitors can explore notable landmarks along the beach and river, indulge in budget-friendly dining options, enjoy live music, and visit the aquarium, all while taking advantage of the great value for money that Wilmington offers. With the possibility that prices might drop during these months, it’s an ideal time for travellers on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To explore last-minute deals to Wilmington, begin by checking the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted hotel rates as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and unique last-minute promotions, helping you seize opportunities to save. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available in the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, so you're more likely to see the best options for your stay. If room availability changes or prices fluctuate, you'll be promptly notified, making it easier to secure a spontaneous getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates might help you find a more economical option for your stay in a Wilmington hotel. If you're in search of something distinctive, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a better rate.
- Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Wilmington’s excellent public transport links, you may find an independent hotel further afield that is still well connected and more likely to be affordable. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
