Downtown Austin
City centre Austin pulses with the beat of live music and energetic crowds. Sixth Street buzzes with bars and clubs where you can catch local bands any night of the week. The towering State Capitol and historic Paramount Theatre anchor the city's cultural scene, while Lady Bird Lake offers a peaceful escape with scenic trails and paddleboarding opportunities. Hotels range from sleek high-rises to boutique spots in restored buildings, with most attractions just a short walk away. The area is incredibly walkable, with plenty of ride-sharing options and bike rentals for exploring beyond the city centre core. Food trucks and upscale restaurants alike serve authentic Texan flavours between music venues.

South Congress
South Congress buzzes with Austin's creative heartbeat, packed with quirky boutiques and music venues that'll make your Instagram followers jealous. The iconic "I Love You So Much" mural practically begs for your selfie, while local artists and musicians create the soundtrack to your wandering. Lady Bird Lake offers a peaceful escape when the vibrant street scene gets too loud. Fuel your adventures at food trucks serving legendary breakfast tacos or splurge on farm-to-table Tex-Mex with the locals. Most spots in this walkable area sit within a 6-block radius, making car-free exploration a breeze. When night falls, hop between live music venues and craft cocktail bars until 2am.

Central East Austin
Central East Austin blends history and hipness with its vibrant cultural scene. The George Washington Carver Museum celebrates Black heritage while Victory Grill serves up legendary live music. Colourful murals splash across converted warehouses, and food trucks dish out mouthwatering tacos next to craft breweries and art galleries. This area offers authentic experiences with easy city centre access. Boutique hotels and renovated homes provide stylish places to stay, while the MetroRail Red Line and bike lanes make getting around a breeze. Weekend markets showcase local artists and musicians who keep Austin's creative spirit alive.

Zilker
Zilker delivers a double dose of Austin's famous outdoor magic and creative spirit. This leafy escape revolves around its massive 351-acre park, where locals splash in the always-perfect 68° waters of Barton Springs Pool. The area hosts major events like Austin City Limits Music Festival while beautiful trails wind along Lady Bird Lake. The Umlauf Sculpture Garden adds a touch of artistic charm to your nature fix. Tree-lined streets showcase a mix of charming bungalows and modern homes where holiday rentals are your best bet for accommodation. Getting around is easiest by bike or rideshare since public transit is limited. When hunger strikes, grab breakfast tacos from food trucks near the park or take a short walk to South Lamar for more dining options.

The Domain
The Domain is Austin's upscale playground where sleek glass towers house designer boutiques and tech giants like Amazon and Facebook. You'll find luxury shopping at Louis Vuitton and Neiman Marcus alongside a surprisingly good live music scene. The Museum of Ice Cream offers a quirky break between splurges, while outdoor plazas create perfect people-watching spots. Restaurants serve a range of dishes, from craft cocktails to contemporary American cuisine, on stylish patios. While hotels offer modern luxury, the area lacks Austin's signature weirdness. Getting around is easy within the development, but you'll need a car or ride-share to explore the rest of the city.

Between the bats and the bands, Austin's weirdness is a point of pride. Sixth Street's legendary music venues showcase tomorrow's stars, while food trucks serve brisket that locals debate with religious fervor. Barton Springs Pool offers natural swimming in the heart of Zilker Park, where dogs outnumber children on sunny afternoons. The nightly exodus of Mexican free-tailed bats from Congress Bridge draws crowds who gasp at the spectacle. Lady Bird Lake's trail fills with joggers who pause for skyline selfies, while South Congress shops sell cowboy boots alongside artisanal chocolates. For the full Austin experience, catch a show at the historic Paramount Theatre or Moody Theatre, where even the security staff can spot musical genius.

Aloft by Marriott Austin Downtown
"Great room for a weekend trip walkable to allot of amenities. Only thing I would be aware of is parking."
Hyatt Place Austin Downtown
"Really great place to stay downtown!"
Hotel Van Zandt
"This was a sister‘s weekend getaway. We loved the look of the property from the moment we walked into the lobby. The staff was extremely helpful at check-in, Shout out to Shan. We also loved our room which had two queen beds, a separate sitting area, and double sinks in the bathroom, which with four women in the room was an absolute must have. we had dinner in the hotel restaurant, Geraldine‘s, we had the short ribs, the lobster tacos, the wedge salad, and for dessert the churros. Everything was absolutely fabulous. We also had brunch at Geraldine‘s on Sunday where they had live jazz performance. Again, our meals were fabulous, and the entertainment was superb. The location of the hotel, near Rainey Street, provided lots of options for other dining experiences and entertainment. I highly recommend this hotel."
Cambria Hotel Austin Downtown
"Great stay in Austin! The hotel was affordable compared to other hotels nearby, without sacrificing quality. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the staff was friendly. The only thing I didn’t like is that the hotel felt like the outskirts of downtown and a 10 min drive from where everything was. However, Rainey street was in the back and had a lot of food carts to eat at, and a few bars. Overall I’d stay here again and would recommend to anyone on a budget who also doesn’t want to compromise on cleanliness and quality."
Tommie Austin, part of Jdv by Hyatt
"Staff was AMAZING!!! Tommie was surrounded by great restaurants and bars. Best of all…. They are pet-friendly!!! We will definitely stay here again!"
Omni Austin Hotel

Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Austin South – Airport.
"Convenient location, lots of parking and clean room. Only complaint would be that the towels are not clean. They were gross."
Placemakr Austin Downtown, Apartments by Hilton
"I just want to give a shoutout to the friendly staff. I was greeted with warmth and kindness from the staff along with a refreshing cup of lemonade. Most importantly, I wanted to give an extra shoutout to the front desk and housekeeping employee (Gri***** & Jim***) I have to redact their full names as per hotels.com policy. We left some jewelry (engagement ring/wedding band/gold earrings) behind during our stay. I called and the front desk immediately provided her support and reassurance. She contacted the cleaning department and she was the one that found the jewelry hidden under some face towels. She placed all of our belongings in lost and found. To be able to have such trustworthy staff makes me confident in my future stays. Going over the top is priceless nowadays. May those two get the recognition they deserve."
Fairmont Austin
"Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff were very polite and helpful."

This duration allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the vibrant live music scene, explore local theatres, and enjoy various festivals. With its affordable entertainment options and rich urban landscape, Austin offers great value for money for those on a budget, making it an ideal destination for a memorable experience.

Additionally, the Smart Shopping comparison tool via the app helps you compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see opportunities to save on your stay.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates might help you save on your stay in an Austin hotel. For those seeking unique experiences, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised touch and sometimes offer better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we’ll inform you if the rate for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears higher, we may suggest more affordable dates to help you find a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Austin's superb public transport links, you might discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
