Decent choice in Erdenet
This is one of the hotels that occupy the old state run hotel block. It is signed in English but a bit hard to find, the lobby is through the door for the coffee shop. No English spoken but the staff is fairly helpful. They do not like to take credit cards and prefer cash but are able to accept cards if you insist. The room is fine, clean and comfortable. There is not really a view and the window was broken though. Plenty of hot water and toiletries although the shower didn't drain well. No WiFi in the rooms, just in the coffee shop. They had two English TV channels (both Discovery channels). They have a nice steam towel heater. There is a mini bar but it was unplugged. There are minimarts and shops nearby. From the train, the minivans will drop you near the Russian friendship monument from where it is a short walk, or a taxi should be 3500 to 6000 or so. You can walk to the center of town in 10 minutes. If you want you can walk up to the friendship monument and past the big Buddha and take a pleasant hike up to the hills overlooking the city. The hotel serves breakfast but the schedule was erratic. With the current turmoil at the mine there are few guests here now. I seemed to be the only one during my stay. Overall a decent choice, and about the only one you can book in advance in Erdenet. Slightly overpriced.
