The best things to do in Chester often include the city's long and fascinating history. Chester was developed as a major Roman fortress, and the remains of their dynasty can still be seen today. Further developments from Saxon to Victorian times have grown Chester into a major urban centre in northwest England, but it’s still the work of the Ancient Romans that most intrigues visitors.
Of course, there's more to modern Chester than its Roman ruins. Throughout the year, the charming city hosts a parade of regular festivals, as well as opportunities to explore its culture and marvel at the animal kingdom.
