My issue is that this does not feel like a 4 star hotel. This is a 2 star in a good location, albeit with a good hospitality playbook for the staff.
The rooms are small and oddly designed. (WHY a glass wall in the bathroom? WHY? WHY two phones to clutter up scarce counter space? WHY a locked minibar permanently installed but a fridge that gets brought in only on demand??)
The beds/pillows are terrible. Again, 2 star quality. The hotel was also under construction, making it unpleasant.
The front desk staff has been trained in helpfulness, undeniably - however, as i was checking in, both clerks on duty were so engaged in explaining to one guest where she could find dinner that neither of them greeted me for several minutes. Also, hospitality clearly has limits - when we tried to sit down at the outdoor eating space to have our Starbucks coffee, we were immediately told to leave (even though the place was empty).
It's a great location. But that alone is not worth the money. We could have stayed at a far more comfortable chain (Hyatt, Hilton) for the same (or slightly lower) cost. A friendly desk staff does not make up for a lumpy bed.
