Arrived at reception… nobody there except “call this number”. After calling, a man comes out and gives the key card and says while pointing “I THINK it’s that way… ummm…. Yes… think so” We thought this was funny but soon turned worse.
As we went back to reception to enquire about where we could eat with our dog a different guy (I’ll call him Frank to keep this anonymous) said reluctantly, “you could sit there, but it’s not really allowed”
Frank then gave us forms asking exactly what we want for breakfast and at what time. Bemused, we filled in the forms and handed back to Frank, who never gave a pleasant reply.
We asked Frank about the menu but was informed only a buffet was available at just under 400nok and 15kr per year for our 9yr old son (135nok). We saw that the buffet was low on some items but looked ok.
Frank came back with his pad and said “so, that’s two adults and a 9yr old boy” we mentioned our boy just wanted a fruit salad and not pay 135nok for that, Frank said that’s the rules, which, of course, could be true but our son probably would’ve eaten half a bowl (as Easter, he was full of chocolate!)
We asked Frank for 10 minutes and in true Basil Fawlty mode, he walked away, screwing up the order paper and throwing it in the bin.
We decided to go to a restaurant in Evje (5 minutes south) and contemplated leaving the hotel to find another place but decided to bite the bullet and stay.
To be fair, the rooms (albeit a little dated) were clean.
