I had a wonderful experience here. I sprung for the special dinner option, which is a Kaiseki style tasting menu. Each dish was served beautifully, and tasted better than it looked. This may be a seasonal offering, but I was asked if I would like to add an extra course of wagyu a week or so before my arrival for an extra charge. Absolutely delicious.
To say nothing about the service would be doing this establishment a disservice. The front desk staff speak solid English, and were very hospitable. They guided me to my room, and helped carry my luggage.
But for me, the highlight of the visit was the cypress bathroom and tub. The smell of the wood fills the room when the bath is ready, and drawing a hot bath is the perfect remedy for the fatigue you accumulate after a day of exploring Kyoto.
I do want to point out some small caveats. First, if you're a taller individual, the ceilings are quite low, so walk carefully. Second, the location is in a residential district in the middle of Kyoto. It's a good escape from the bustle of the city that's somewhat close to transit, but if you're looking for somewhere more remote or more close to the action, this might not be the place.
For the way I scheduled my itinerary, this was the right place to be, and I cannot recommend it more. What a wonderful experience.
