Noisy and overpriced
We stayed here recently and, whilst the room was clean and nicely decorated, the overall experience was hugely overpriced — at least £100 too much for what we received. We paid £240 for the night, which is frankly excessive given the shortcomings.
Shortly after booking, we received an email informing us there would be no parking available due to the Wells Festival. This was frustrating, as we would have factored parking into our decision had we known beforehand.
The bathroom was a particular let-down. It had a shower over a bath that had clearly seen better days, a badly rusted radiator, battered old soap and shampoo bottles, and no loo roll holder or hand towel rail. To make matters worse, the bathroom window looked directly onto the roof terrace — and wasn’t frosted — much to my husband’s surprise when he walked in half dressed.
In the bedroom, there was no fridge — which feels like an odd omission for a room at this price point. The noise level was also high, which made for a restless night.
Breakfast was another disappointment. The black pudding was inedible, and serving streaky bacon on a British breakfast plate seemed an odd choice. The dining process was disorganised — we ended up in a bit of a disagreement with staff over “allocated” tables, which could easily be avoided by simply using table numbers.
Perhaps the price was inflated due to the festival, but even so, the value for money simply wasn’t there. Overall, we left feeling that our stay was worth the money
