I booked this stay for the first day of the Takayama Autumn Festival so of course the price was crazy high. My issue is that the hotel was supposed to send an email with check in instructions 24 hours in advance, which didn’t happen. Upon arriving at the address after a long day of travel, I had no idea how to get into the room or even who to contact. There was only a sign with a phone number and when I tried calling it, it wouldn’t go through. Finally, I went to a local café owner and asked them and they instructed me that I should go to the Wat Hotel because that is who owns the Takayama Stay. Once I got that crucial bit of information, the check-in was easy, but I was also pretty frustrated. The room itself is very small with minimal amenities, but at least it was clean. One issue we had with the room is that there is a bright green emergency exit light right above the door and there’s no way to block it. The bedroom door actually had a frosted glass so when you’re trying to sleep at night, you’ll get a green glow emanating through the entire bedroom. Boggles my mind that they wouldn’t think about that being an issue. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend booking this hotel unless you are desperate and it’s the last room in Takayama.
