Hubby thought it was “fine”. ~Run!
The hotel is in a very popular historic area with lots of restaurants and shops. Very cool from that perspective. It’s exactly what we wanted.
The building is hundreds of years old and in a way, it was interesting. However, they seemed to have made very few improvements. We checked in and got the keys, which were actual keys on a key chain. I was kind of excited thinking it was sort of cool and hip, but it was the first sign of how the rest of the stay would be.
The interior was very dark and dated- heavy dark wood with lots of scratches and gashes in the walks and woodwork. Absolutely everything is original, which some people probably like, but I found it to be creepy. It felt like a junky old, worn out building that smelled old and dirty. As I laid in bed and looked around, the old phrase “bed chamber” came to mind and it made me laugh. I feel like the owners are hiding behind its authenticity s an excuse to not update it.
Couple other things to note, there is no parking, not even on the street and no valet. You have to park in the public parking garage a half mile away and drag your luggage uphill and over cobblestones.
What sums up the entire stay and really says it all is that the shampoo and soap containers in the shower were completely empty. Plenty of conditioner though. When we were dropping off the keys at checkout, I mentioned that they need to fill the shampoo containers and the response was “you didn’t mention that last night”. Huh?
