We arrived at the Red Lion Inn in Monterey, California, about an hour and a half before our check-in time. While the host acknowledged our reservation, we were told to return in an hour and a half without any offer of an early check-in option, even for an additional fee. This lack of accommodation was disappointing.
Upon entering our room, it initially appeared clean and well-kept. However, we quickly discovered that one of the blinds was missing, and the rest of the blinds were faulty—they only worked in one position and would immediately fall back if we tried to adjust them.
Additionally, the restroom near the office smelled terrible and was poorly maintained. It was clear that upkeep in this area had been neglected.
Finally, while I respect the rights of others to smoke, the persistent smell of marijuana throughout the night made it difficult to enjoy our stay. For the amount we paid for a one-night stay, we expected much better. Red Lion Inn, you need step up your game.
