I had a last-minute work trip and my company has new limits for what we can spend per month on travel, so I chose the Hudson River Hotel based on the photos on the website and affordable price. My Uber driver couldn't even find the hotel (there was scaffolding outside of the building and the sign was hidden), the lobby was small, messy, and cluttered, and the elevator was broken so I had to take a sketchy stairwell filled with laundry bags. The man who checked me in was friendly and helpful - which was the only redeeming part of my stay. The walls in the room were dirty and had scuff marks all over them, the bathtub had stains in it, the wallpaper was coming off, the carpet was worn and coming up in spots, and when I went to plug in my phone to charge it the electrical outlet was loose and felt dangerous. After a long day of travel and being out and about in NYC, I looked forward to a shower - but somehow felt more icky afterward.
