I stayed at the MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit from August 7–8, 2025. While the public areas, restaurants, and overall décor are visually impressive and modern, the experience quickly went downhill once I reached my room. There was a noticeable layer of dust on multiple surfaces, the carpet looked old and dingy, the bedding had stains, and the towels felt like they had been sitting unused for a long time. For a property that markets itself as upscale, the lack of basic cleanliness and attention to detail was unacceptable.
The most disturbing part of my stay, however, was what happened to my car. I parked on Level 1, Aisle B in the garage around 6:30 PM on August 7. When I returned at 11:15 AM the next morning, I discovered my car window smashed and the vehicle broken into. This is a property that advertises 24-hour security and is surrounded by security cameras, yet this still occurred.
The hotel staff’s response was minimal and dismissive. They came out, asked a few basic questions, asked me write a statement “for their records,” and then put a plastic bag over my shattered window. That was it no meaningful assistance, no effort to help beyond the bare minimum, and no gesture of goodwill such as covering part of the damages or offering a comped stay.
Between the poorly maintained room and the complete security failure, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who values safety, cleanliness, or basic hospitality.
