As a dedicated student of art history, I travelled to Istanbul with one goal: to finally experience the magnificence of the Hagia Sophia with its 1.500 years of excellence in architecture and art.
Naturally, I needed to stay in a hotel that placed an equal importance on art, and I am beyond happy I chose Casa Foscolo, who did not disappoint!
From the special little in-house book store with an emphasis on art, to the art exhibited throughout the hotel, to the eye for design, to the knowledge of Bilal at the front desk who was excited to share his expertise - it was perfect.
As a solo woman traveller, I felt so well-received and treated with incredible warmth and kindness by all. The housekeeping was excellent, the room impeccably clean. The breakfast restaurant staff was so kind, all smiles - I loved the menemen and the great coffee! Thank you especially Seher Abdullah Ahmet!
Bilal at the front desk also needs a special mention. My very first evening he recommended the best dürüm I have had in my life with the salty ayran to drink. After that I walked to view the Hagia Sophia from the outside and arrived right after Friday prayers in the middle of Ramadan with happy children filling the square in the frosty March night. It was magical.
I am beyond grateful I got to spend my very first time in Istanbul with Casa Foscolo as my safe, and beautiful, and kind home base. I can't wait to come back!
