Lovely place to stay
What a great find. The perfect stop off on our way to the Highlands. The room (room 5) was incredibly spacious and clean. The service was friendly and genuine and the food was well cooked and great value. The breakfast in particular was clearly cooked to order and piping hot. Definitely recommend this place.

A real gem, on the eastern edge of the Lakes
What a gem of a place - amazing rooms (I stayed in room 1), comfy beds with great in room amenities and a very pleasant shower. The team are all friendly, which combined with a reasonable selection of ales, a nice ambience and good pub food, leads to a great place to stay. Will be staying again to break my long journies!

Great little country gem.
A lovely place in a beautiful area, ideally situated for a number of walks. The hotel is really nice and the room was large and well appointed. Steph and her team are second to none and she is super helpful and nothing ever seems too much trouble. I would highly recommend this pub to stay, we’re sad to leave.

Lovely hotel close to motorway
Lovely hotel not too far away from the M6. Bed was really comfortable and bedding really nice. Food was nice and service good only problem was the numerous flies in the dining room. Breakfast was really nice and freshly cooked to order. Bacon was amazing! All the staff are really pleasant and helpful.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub is very clean and has a welcoming atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable, ideal for a stopover on a long journey, ideal for walkers. The food was good pub fare. Ideal location, easy to get to the major routes north and south.

Leak in the ceiling
The building was beautiful and the food was amazing. What really let the entire experience down was the leak in our rooms ceiling. From around midnight till 4am there was a steady stream of water leaking from the beams and down the walls in our room. Sadly, the leak was directly above where our dogs bed was, and by the time we realised that the water we heard dripping was inside the room, his bed was sodden. Reported it to staff who didn’t really know how to respond, only saying that it’s happened before. For £100 a night, I wouldn’t expect water to be leaking into our room.

Wonderful place to stop while hiking the coast to coast trail. Didn't realize you had to walk around the building to check in just off the parking lot, since we didn't arrive by car. Steph was so welcoming and did a load of wash for us for a small donation in their cup on the bar. A fire alarm went off at 450 am bolting us out of bed. Turned out to be nothing but I think I remember reading about this happening before in someone's write up. Dinner and breakfast was good!

Old pub hotel with much character, very nice comfortable room. We had dinner in the bar which was very good. Bar had a real fire and real ale, very nice. Breakfast the next day was very good with many cooked options. Very good value overall.

A great place to stay on our way to Scotland. Ticked every box. Met every expectation. We’ll definitely be back when we walk the coast to coast.

Shap's hidden treasure ?
Welcoming, helpful and pleasant staff helped make this overnight stop more than that. It's a lovely, characterful hotel and well appointed with all that was required . The room was excellent and vey clean and comfortable. The food was excellent. We were happy to see a busy dining room with many locals which is always a good sign, The Greyhound did not disappoint and is worth the couple miles off the M6 to find. Thanks , we shall be back !

Spur of the moment booking & we found this little gem! Have used booking sites before & occasionally a place shows up thats a real nugget. This was one of them. Exceptionally clean & well kept, well appointed rooms & fittings. Good choice of well kept real ales . Excellent well cooked substantial breakfast.
