Old and in need of some more TLC
I will say this of you are use to maid service , valet parking you are in the wrong place. What you have is an older place that can use some more TLC nothing fancy and very laid back. I came in and was a bit rude with my comment “ if this place looks as bad on the inside as it does on the outside I am not staying here”. Well I felt like an ass and had forgotten where I came from.. that being said the manager Shelly was a professional with me and my snobbish comment.. Shelly I am so sorry and I will be back if you will allow me to come back. Never judge a book by its cover.. that goes for anything. Shelly was a. Sweet heart and busts her ass for that place the owner should be happy to have her.

2/10 Poor

Hotel from Hell
The hotel was a dump. Half of the electrical plugs in the room did not work and the room was shabby with a cheap mattress, pillows and sheets. We were given a sliver of soap that would not foam and then told that they only provided new towels and cleaned the room every three days. For almost $240 PER NIGHT it definitly was not the kind of hotel shown on their web site. The floors in the bathroom were chipped with missing tile, bugs in the bathroom, and mold everywhere. There was a elongated toilet seat which did not match the round toilet. The whole place needs repair and painting. The TV was internet only and the wifi could not handle multile users so the input kept hanging up the picture. There were no comfortable chairs in the room, only two kitchen chairs, except for the deck which were right under the A/C UNIT which was blowing hot air at about 150 degrees. The only place to sit was on the bed. We would never stay there again, I guess that goes without saying. The only positive thing we could say about our stay was that there was a great view of the gulf from the room. Oh, there was no handicap access anywhere in the hotel. Do not believe their internet prices, they add a huge resort fee for which you get nothing. If you want to waste your money book a stay at the Beach Front Motel.

We couldn't check in until 530pm. There was p.enty of waterview but no beach to speak of. Ice machine was out of order and no solution offered.had to go to town and buy our own ice. Although a nonsmoking room, an ash tray was on the small balcony and there was a smoking area at the bottom of our outside stairs leading to our room and quite a bit of smoking around the property including the pool. Dog and cat in office area that waz small. Another couple was there checking in making this space quite crowded and I accidentally stepped on the foot of the cat i couldn’t see when we walked in to this crowded space and the cat bit and scratched me badly . I was bleecing from several places on my leg. I was offered some peroxide and bandaids. In town quaaint but old and in poor condition. We will never go back.

Total property neglect, a sad decline in two years
It had been a couple of years since we last stayed at this hotel. Back then it was a old but clean and quaint place to stay with excellent service. This trip, it was a run-down motel with little concern shown for guest comfort. Air conditioning that fell short, a pool that looked like pea soup, ice for sale (if the machine wasn’t broken), unclean and damaged flooring, overpriced, and if you are allergic to cats, stay out of the office as several cats live there and lay and play about the office. In room coffee station didn’t have cups and the balcony furniture was rotten. Office is only open business hours, don’t expect much assistance then. Bring your own toilet paper! I paid 187.58 for one room x 2. There are several people working on Cesar Key that believe the owner (who lives further south in Florida) doesn’t care anymore. Pictures don’t do the disrepair of floors, doors, bathrooms, electrical outlets the horror they deserve. I’m surprised it has not been condemned.

Ouch - time for renovation
Wow! After more than 23 years in the military and having stayed in a number of “uncomfortable”… this was up there as sketchy places. The room, on the second floor, was an epic view and location. The condition of the room is well beyond it’s best days, e.g., the toilet seat was missing several leveling feet = wobbly, the hot water was tepid and the cold was cold, no be skirt, a comforter that I last saw in the ‘70s. My favorite… the ice machine, located near the pool, remains plugged in but does not appear to have operated for for quite sometime. The price appeared to be a bargain, on line, but in reality we truly overpaid.

Comfortable Clean and Convenient
Very nice front desk staff. Older building but location was excellent. Walking distance to everything. Right on the point with water on two sides. Quiet and they allow dogs. There are cats around, as in every Florida coastal fishing town, so be aware if you are bringing a dog. Comfortable room and we slept well.

Had a nice view but not worth the trouble
I arrived at 4 oclock (check in was at 3) was told my room was no ready and come back in 30 minutes. At 6 I came back and waited in the office for over 10 minutes for someone to come. As i waited, I listened to people in the back office argue over video games. Finally the desk clerk came and checked me in...leaving twice to yell at the people in the back office. Then she couldnt find my key. She let me into my room with her keys and left them in my room wuth the desk phone as she went looking for my room key and clean towels. (I don't think its safe to leave all the master keys with some random person) After 90 minutes I took the keys and the phone back and she still hadn't found my room key or towels. She searched and found a key. The room was nice although it was not what i reserved...I reserved 3 beds and a kitchenette. This was one bed and no kitchenette. It did have a beautiful view. By the way at 10 am on the day I checked out we still did not have clean towels even after asking multiple times.

If you love Cedar Key, you'll want to stay here
You will by no means have a luxury experience at this hotel. You will not be wowed by its trendy decor and boutique amenities. You will, however, have a fun and relaxing experiencing in a hotel that is reflective of the vibe and environment in which it exists. And, it comes with onsite dogs and cats - a true bonus! We loved Sassy! My husband and I grew up in the area, but we now live in Atlanta. The hotel options in Chiefland are horrible, so when we visited family this time we decided to stay in Cedar Key. Having grown up in the area, we are very familiar with Cedar Key and absolutely love the slow, rustic vibe. No where is more laid back than Cedar Key. Yes, the property is old and its age shows. It is a lot of work and very expensive to maintain property of this age in that kind of environment, where it is completely exposed to the water and the elements. And, it's not like there are a ton of resources around. Cedar Key is a tiny island with a tiny population. The closest Home Depot is about 1.5 hours away. It's in a very rural, isolated area with few services, merchants, etc. available. And that's what we love about it, but it must be challenging to maintain and manage this property. Our room definitely showed its age, but it was comfortable and clean, met our needs, and we had such a great time. We wanted to stay an extra night, but we had to get back. We plan on going back and staying longer next time. This will definitely be our hotel of choice on future visits.

The motel was spartan but comfortable. Everything worked. The AC was a champ on hot Florida days. It works as a base camp for exploring the treasures of Cedar Key.
