Rooms are bad

Room was awful, really dirty and old our room was in the basement, it didn’t have any windows. The bathroom was full of mould and shower was all rusty and the bedsheets were stained with what looked like blood! The rooms look nothing like the photos online so be careful when booking. The hotel needs a big refurb!!

Awful room 416

We paid to stay in a superior room and it was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Nearly £400 and we could feel the bed base through the mattress . Room 416 ! This is no exaggeration. The view was great but the windows were filthy . Location was great but again I wouldn’t stay if you don’t want the noise from surrounding bars (we had no issue with this ) but these are things not mentioned when booking The terrace is only open til 6pm . The bar next to reception is closed all day Just to add : My opinion is based on over 7 years worth of hotel stays away due to the nature of my job I was away on a weekly basis all over the country . this stay was not for work .
William, 2-night trip

2/10 Poor

The superior room although had good views of the pier and seafront, it had a clothes penetrating smell of cigarette smoke, the doors to the balcony did not lock properly, the tap faucet on the sink was extremely loose, the walls were dirty and stained, the grout around the fuse box was missing leaving a quarter inch gap between the box and the plasterboard, the air vents were very dirty and full of dust. The bar person refused to change the barrel when it ran out and was extremely unhelpful. Outside the hotel was very dirty with a constant smell of dope and cigarettes which permeated the lobby and you had to walk through it whichever direction you were going. Parking was a total nightmare with extortionate London prices.
Julie, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

The hotel is dirty, the room was full of dust. The pretend that they are following covid rules and only tide up the room if you stay more than 7 nights. Breakfast is horrible, coffee beans are burned and it is horrible. Check out time is ridiculous and they charge to stay until 11 and more if you decide to stay until 12. Our room was with see view and balcony but we were the only balcony without chairs, we asked for 2 chairs and they did not have a toast for it. Absolutely rubbish. We will never stay in this place again and we do not recommend it in any way shape or form. It is a nightmare.

The place is clean and staff were nice but the hotel looks like it’s seen better days..The toilet in the room looked like it had been shoved in next to the shower as an after thought.I felt jammed in between the wall and shower. I like it’s central location

Hello. The staff are very polite and courteous! But, I am sure this is not the first time you have read such reviews, the building and rooms require repair.

Will never stay in this place even it is for free. I will never compromise my comfort and standard. I only blame myself for staying at this place, luckily is called "The Royal", its name should be changed, it has nothing royal about it.

kEY ELEMENTS WERE CLEAN, OVERALL HOTEL IS IN DEED OF A SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT AS IT HAS A TYPICAL BRITANIA HOTEL TIRED FEELING.
Richard, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

The hotel checked someone else into my room while I was out for dinner! I came back to find someone else in my room and half my stuff still in the room and half at reception. Management investigated and said it was a computer error and should never have happened. Offered me £15 and a discount for future stay! Complete disgrace! Avoid staying there.
george, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Parking is expensive so use the recommended parking with the special rate for hotel
Sylvia, 2-night trip

2/10 Poor

Extractor fan units on and off all night, very noisy, dust on carpets was measurable with a tape measure, staff unwilling to change rooms when asked as there were too many others waiting to change rooms. An over-all unpleasant stay. We came home a day early

We were only disappointed at the bar not being open during the day.

6/10 Good

Disappointing & not cleaned properly

This is a very old property, they don’t provide any room service (not even water) so just arrange for yourself or you can drink from bathroom tap water. Also, the carpet flooring was not cleaned, my 8 month toddler was crawling and there were hair all over his hand, very disappointing. I agree it’s an old property but at least cleanliness should be maintained. The only pros is the location, which is just across the road from the beach. Breakfast buffet was very nice - all English breakfast, loved it.
